A woman in Xiamen City, China was forced to admit that she cheated on her husband recently when they both noticed something unusual after the birth of her twins. While one of the twins looked like the husband, the other one, strangely did not.
One child had a different nose, eyes, and mouth than him.
At the insistence of the husband, they decided to do a DNA test, and what they discovered was shocking — more so for the husband than the wife. Only one of the babies shared his DNA!
In other words, the twins had two completely different fathers.
It turns out that it is possible to get pregnant by two different men at the same time.
According to science, while situations like this are not entirely unheard of, they are extremely rare. It is called heteropaternal superfecundation — a condition where two of a woman’s eggs are fertilized by two separate acts of sexual intercourse, no more than a few days apart. Sometimes, this means two different men as well, as is the case in this story.
Originally, the wife denied everything and even went as far as to accuse her husband of falsifying the lab results.
Eventually, however, she had to admit that, yes, she did indeed have an affair with another man around the time she became pregnant.
One egg received the DNA of the woman’s husband, and the other egg received the DNA of her lover.
The husband, who is going by the alias, Xiaolong, was understandably a little upset when he found out.
According to the Chinese newspaper Strait Herald, at first, Xiaolong completely refused to take care of the child that wasn’t biologically his.
“I obviously still want my own child, but I’m unwilling to raise someone else’s,” Xiaolong told reporters.
Chinese doctor, Ms Zhang, of the Fujian Zhengtai Judicial Authentication Center in Xiamen elaborated on the birth:
“This is a very special case. It means that the woman had sexual relations with two men – and was impregnated by them at the same time. They’re fraternal twins,” Ms Zhang said.
While there have been documented cases of fraternal twins with two different fathers being born in the past, in most cases, the truth is never actually discovered.
Most people don’t even realize such a thing is possible, thus, they never think to do a DNA test. Maybe it’s for the best. We can only imagine how much drama a discovery of this nature would bring to a family.
Although further details were not revealed, Ms Zhang did add that the Chinese couple was eventually able to work things out.
In a country like China where reputation and shame are such a big part of the culture, it is safe to say that this had to be quite an embarrassing situation for the couple to be in.
Cheating is always a risky business.
