An exchange of vows and an “I do” from both man and woman, followed by the “I now pronounce you husband and wife” is usually followed by an applause from the congregation. Music plays or for the more traditional, a choir with a small band. Man and wife walk from the altar back down the aisle amidst cheering and teary eyed people as the newly weds walk past them.
At least as far as traditional wedding ceremonies go.
Them there are those with a more unique take on the event and some like to add in a twist or a moment of surprise for the viewers and those in attendance.
This video shows a small wedding in a decently sized church. Man and wife facing their friends and family as a band plays an enchanting melody known to us as “You raise me up“. Now while it is more popularly attributed to Josh Groban, this song was actually written by a Norwegian-Irish duo called Secret Garden.
Soon after its huge success, many artists followed with their own take of the song.
Now as the band played, a lady standing by the bride and groom provided the vocals and she sang her heart out for the church. After all, it is a wedding and moments like these are remembered forever.
It is quite a solemn ceremony and even though it’s not one of those grand and expensive weddings, there is an intimacy and magic to their set up.
At around the 1:40 mark, the groom Rikard Holst suddenly lets go of his new wife Sofia’s hand and grabs a trombone that’s been resting by the band’s area.
Well apparently this man has the talent. He takes over with the trombone and he plays it with so much passion. Just look at the smiles on those ladies behind him. Better keep an eye on your man, newly wed wife!
Even the female minister had to crack a smile. This something you don’t see everyday. Much less weddings!
What makes it even more interesting is how Rikard is playing it. While the band plays the song in a very orchestra-like manner, he plays the trombone with a certain jazzy flare reminiscent of the big band era of the 1940s. It sounds really cool!
A little girl approaches the bride as if to ask what’s going on. Well, little lady, it’s music!
The drums come in after the trombone solo and the lady on vocals delivers the chorus once again, this time with the trombone providing background to her voice.
The lovely Sofia is beaming with pride looking very proud of her man. The song comes to its end and how about one big finish? Rikard takes a deep breath and plays a higher note alongside the band as they trail the last note to a lower pitch. Glad you married him, dear lady!
That deserves a kiss doesn’t it? Yes it does and those in attendance erupt in applause and cheer for the new mister and missus.
