In a video tour provided by Living Big in a Tiny House, we get to see one of the most spectacular tiny homes on a plot of land that is truly stunning. Mandy, the woman who built it all, is responsible for the home and the property.

It all began when Mandy and her ex-husband decided to refurbish two totally derelict train cars.

Despite wanting to move to the beach, the couple decided to try something different. Over the course of years, they slowly fixed up the destroyed cars and made them fit for a wonderful home. Even more incredible, they were intentional to not lose the history of the structure. The cars still sit on their original wheels and have all the trimmings that a railcar is expected to have.

The property itself is magnificent.

With sweeping views of the New Zealand mountains and fields, you think you are in a Lord of the Rings movie right when you walk outside! At night, as Mandy explains, the stars are crystal clear and not sullied by any artificial light from a city nearby. Part of the drawback of living in such an area is the difficulties of getting basics like water and electricity. But for Mandy, it’s all worth it.

Moving into the home, we get our first look at how Mandy lives on a daily basis.

The interior of the home is covered in a beautiful redwood that still maintains the feel of an old-school railcar. In the living room of the space, a beautiful oriental rug and some leather seating make you feel like you are traveling by rail at the pinnacle of technology.

The kitchen is fully functional and is just as cozy as the rest of the building.

What house is complete without a kitchen? Mandy’s railcar home doesn’t slack AT ALL when it comes to cooking. It has a stove, oven, sink, and counter space that rivals any apartment in the world. Despite not spending a lot of time in the kitchen (as Mandy explains), it is always ready to provide a hot meal at a moment’s notice.

The master bedroom and bathroom are fully functional and are the perfect touch to the already homey home.

With a full shower and bedroom, you aren’t sacrificing much when you visit this property. While some like the “camping” vibe the great outdoors provide, this tiny home doesn’t make you suffer for the essentials.

While everything is wonderful, the real beauty is in the details.

Little bits scavenged from railcars, discrete solar panels, and a separate spot for visiting friends and guests (in the second carriage) combine to make a home worthy of royalty. If you haven’t yet, the full tour provided by Living Big in a Tiny House is well worth the watch.
