Ron Belcher was living in Wisconsin when a tornado struck. In the midst of the chaos, Ron was separated from his two dogs, Cocoa and Taz. He was knocked out by the violent storm and woke up to discover something terrible: Cocoa and Taz were nowhere to be found.

The storm that hit the Prairie Lakes Estates was nothing short of a tragedy. The tornado destroyed much of the housing in the area, leaving lots of pain and destruction behind: “It came up all of a sudden, and then it was so loud, and it got so dark,” Ron explained to ABC News.

The twister demolished his house, busting up windows and even tearing off the roof. Despite all this, when Ron woke up in the Lakeview Medical Hospital the one thing on his mind was the location of his two beloved pups.

Cocoa the Husky and Taz the Pomeranian had utterly disappeared in the commotion. Ron couldn’t rest knowing that his dogs were out caught in the elements. Since he was hospitalized, there was nothing he could do to find the dogs. Luckily, a friend was willing to help.

When Ron’s nurse, Ciara Rockow, heard about the missing pups, she was determined to do something about it. She took it upon herself to find the missing dogs and bring them back to their loving owner.

Ciara found the dogs wandering together near the local animal hospital. Then she brought them back to the medical center for a heartfelt reunion with Ron.

Ron was overjoyed to see his dogs again. For him, seeing the dogs meant being reunited with his family. “This is God’s gift,” he shared with ABC News. “That’s what keeps me moving no matter how many bad things happen.” With Cocoa and Taz by his side, Ron’s recovery at the hospital will be much smoother.

It is incredible how much our pets mean to us. Ciara demonstrated deep compassion by using her own free time to help a patient find his family. This story reminds us that we can find camaraderie even with the strangers around us.
