Some people are so incredibly talented that the rest of us can’t help but be inspired by them. When a person has an amazing gift, others just want to celebrate it. It is as if we are drawn to the wondrous creations that incredible artists come up with.
Singing is no exception. The art of music might be less tangible than other forms of art, but it is no less beautiful. Talented singers have a way of hypnotizing an audience.
One such singer is Sir Tom Jones. This Welsh artist has taken the world by storm since the 1960’s, when he entered the music industry as a vocalist. He has performed in the genres of Pop, R&B, soul, and country.
Tom has quite the collection of awards, including a Grammy Award, an MTV Video Music Award, and two Brit Awards. This man has had so much success in his musical career that in 2006 Queen Elizabeth II knighted him for his services to music. Clearly, Tom is talented.
Despite his overwhelming success, Tom Jones hasn’t been in the limelight for some time now. Recently he has spent his time coaching on The Voice UK. Tom might not be on center stage anymore, but music is still close to his heart.
Although he constantly appears on a show about upcoming singers, Tom doesn’t perform himself – not usually, anyway. But you never know what will happen on the set of a big show! Just this year the artist surprised his audience will a little entertainment, and people can NOT stop raving about his astonishing talent.
It all started on a typical day. Tom and the other judges – Olly Murs, Jennifer Hudson, and Will.i.am – sat in their red chairs facing away from the stage. They were waiting for the next contestant to come out for a blind audition. As they waited the judges joked around together.
“I got three men now,” Tom said, referring to the formerly accepted contestants. “I need a woman!”
The reference was too much for Olly. “I need a woman!” he repeated, clapping to the rhythm of the classic song, “I’ve Got A Woman” by Ray Charles. The song was first released in 1957 as part of the album “Hallelujah I Love Her So!” It was an instant hit. The song was so big that The Beatles recorded two versions in the early 1960’s. Clearly the song was on Olly’s mind when Tom made his remark.
At first Tom laughed at his fellow judge’s suggestion, but as Olly kept singing more and more members of the audience started to clap. Soon it was clear what the people wanted: to hear Tom sing.
The entire audience broke into applause, cheering and awaiting Tom’s reaction. “Look what you started!” Jennifer exclaimed, pointing out to the crowd. The peer pressure was too much for Tom; he decided to sing to his eager audience.
After cuing the pianist, Tom started his solo. Jennifer immediately whipped out her phone to start recording.
The accomplished artist showed no hesitation; he immediately started belting out the words as if it were his own audition. The piano started playing right on time, and everyone quieted down to see the star perform.
All eyes were on Tom as he hit each note perfectly. “Yes!” Jennifer shouted as Tom sang “She’s the kind of woman that I need.”
The brilliant performer captivated the audience with his stunning vocals. It wasn’t hard to see how he made it to the top in his musical career.
As the other instruments started playing, the entire audience broke out in dance. Every last onlooker stood up and grooved to the music. It was like a concert had been organized between auditions!
Everyone cheered as Tom sang out the last notes. There was so much energy in the room, and it was all because this man was confident enough to share his talent with the world.
Okay, so we can’t all be as incredibly talented as Tom Jones. But we each have something unique to share, and as you can see from this video, life is better when we let our talents shine through.
