Rick Rea is the playwright behind the hilarious “Fairly Potter” musical and its sequel “A Fairly Potter Christmas Carol”. If you couldn’t already tell by the title, they’re a series of Harry Potter parodies! To promote the release of the sequel, a local breakfast television channel visited Rick in Ogden, Utah at the Ziegfeld Theatre to interview him about his upcoming show.

Rick is most well-known for Fairly Potter, but also has an impressive talent for coming up with clever improvised songs on the spot.

Somehow he must have double booked his morning schedule by accident, because he was due to babysit. But instead of finding another sitter, he brought his adorable baby goddaughter with him to the stage.

Imagine the conversation before he left in the morning:

“K bro, see ya later I’m off to be interviewed!”

“What? No, you said you’d babysit today, remember?”

“Oh no! My bad… Uh, I’ll make it work. Give me the baby.”

Happens to the best of us.

Rick sits down at the keyboard and introduces Coco. He then shows the audience how his goddaughter has a “musical butt”, lifting her up and swinging her across the full stretch of keys. She seems pleased and immediately puts her arms up to be lifted again.

The interviewer starts creating a topic for Rick to sing his improvised song about. He lands on the idea of two people who’ve been working together so long that it’s almost like a marriage. He gives them both names and personality traits: one of them is awkward, the other is a little mothering (where does he come up with this stuff?).

Rick looks totally unfazed and starts singing and playing the keyboard right away. Coco wastes no time and walks over to the side of the stage for more space so she can get her groove on.

Look at this little cutie patootie! Who dressed her? That headband has me swooning. Where can I buy the dress in my size?

It’s hard to focus on Rick’s clever lyrics when there’s a cute dancing baby on the other side of the stage!

But he’s flawlessly weaving the the theme, the character’s names, and the personalities suggested by the interviewer into his song. Watch the video twice, maybe three times if you want to pay attention.

Coco totally steals the show. Even the camera person strays away from Rick to record Coco.

The commenters at the studio are live on air and can’t help but laugh about how darling this little dancing girl is!

If this isn’t the most uplifting way to start your morning I’m not sure what is!

You know how some babies know they’re cute? Well, it’s safe to say Coco knows.

She must be her god father’s biggest fan! I wonder if she’ll take up a lead role in one of his musicals one day.

See Coco’s dance moves for yourself and listen to her god father’s improvised song in the video below!
