Parenting is sometimes a dirty job, but awesome parents are always willing to do it. A video of a man playing in the mud with his daughter has warmed hearts across the Internet, and you won’t want to miss a moment.
Take my hand
The video begins as we see a small girl standing ankle deep in the mud. She looks at her father and extends a hand motioning for him to come closer. Her father takes small steps to get to the very edge of the mud puddle while the camera keeps rolling.
The father looks back at the camera as the little girl calls to him. You can almost hear his thoughts as his adult mind tells him not to play in the mud since it’d get his shoes dirty. But the little girl is insistent and asks her father to join in. She says:
“Come here. Come here. Give me your hand.”
Many parents would refuse and ask their daughters to get out of the mud before they got cold. But that’s not the plan for this 5-star dad. He simply takes hold of his daughter’s hand and steps into the mud with her.
Playing in the rain
The little girl takes only a moment to make sure her dad is alright before she helps him play this silly game. Father and daughter giggle with glee as they hop and splash in the mud. Dad runs around the large puddle with his little girl making a big mess captured on camera.
You can hear the childlike wonder in the father as he is overjoyed seeing his daughter at play. The little girl is thrilled to see her dad join the fun as they make a big mess and explore their world. It’s a perfect little moment that could only come after a messy muggy rain.
The video only lasts a few seconds longer, but those seconds are filled with fun and laughter between the little girl and her dad. It’s almost disappointing that the video ended so early, but we can definitely assume that hey had a ton of fun before going home to get cleaned up.
Playtime is important
This video is a great example of parenting done right. The father never negates the child’s desires to explore the world and puts bonding time and happy memories ahead of the cleanliness of his shoes. They share a cute bonding moment that will lead to a closer family as the child grows.
But play isn’t just about having fun. It also helps children learn more about the world and their own bodies. As many parents and child psychologists will say, playing is how a child tests the world and develops their personalities and opinions. When the child played in the mud and invited her father to join her, they weren’t just having a great time, but father got to participate in his child’s learning.
Some parents and families stay indoors on rainy days. They don’t want to get messy or ruin their clothes and devices that they have on them. But this video speaks to a simpler time when all you needed to have fun with your children is time, a willingness to get dirty, and the wide open world.
Have you ever played in the rain with a child? Would you be willing to?
