What would you do if you just saw your best friend you hadn’t seen in two days?
For Maxwell and Finnegan, this same situation just happened to them recently. And when they saw each other, they had to rush towards the other and give each other a hug.
Did we mention Maxwell is only 26 months old and Finnegan is 27 months old?
The two toddlers met a year ago and they have been inseparable since. They all live in the same neighborhood. They ride the same bus to daycare. Plus they also go to the same music class and they’re both excellent dancers!
So it comes as no surprise that, having been apart for two days, they would rush to each other the minute they saw each other.
“My friend!” one of the boys, Maxwell, shouted.
Maxwell’s dad, Michael Cisneros, was the one who took the video.
“They just run toward each other. And I got my phone out as quickly as possible to try and record it and they are just too cute together,” Maxwell said in an interview with KETKnbc.
Normally, Maxwell doesn’t post a lot of personal videos on Facebook, especially personal videos set to public.
“With all the racism and hate going on, I think it’s a really beautiful video,” Maxwell said. “The reason it’s getting so much attention is [that] it’s between a little black boy and a little white boy. If we can change someone’s minds or just change their view on things, then it’s totally worth it.”
Maxwell had no idea how to make a video go viral to spread this message, which is evident with what he wrote on his Facebook profile.
“I have no idea how to make things go viral, for those that do……please share. This is just so beautiful. Finnegan + Maxwell= BESTIES!!! If we could all be like this,” Maxwell wrote on Facebook.
He also tagged The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Today Show, and The Ellen Show to help spread the video. His friends helped him out, too, because five days after posting the video, his post has received almost 9,000 likes, almost 2,000 comments, more than 11,000 shares, and almost 1m views.
It has been shared on Boston show, Mix 104.1, ABC7 NY, Fox 59 NY, ABC News, Inside Edition, WTHR Indiana, Good Morning America, Pop Sugar, Lite FM Chicago, 6abc Philadelphia, Huffington Post, and the TODAY Show.
It’s even been featured in Australia by 7News, and shared by US Rep. Alexandra Ocasio Cortez!
Most of the comments were positive and supportive. But there are still some many naysayers who said the video could have been staged.
“It was just a lucky moment and I got it in camera,” Maxwell answered the critics. “And now, with the attention it’s getting, it’s a great story to tell [Maxwell] when he’s older.”
Maxwell told HuffPost that the two best friends shared everything from food to clothes and hugs.
“They are always super excited to see each other, even if they’ve only been apart for a day or two,” Maxwell shared about his son’s relationship with Finnegan. He told ABC7, “When they are away from each other, they are always asking about one another.”
And some of those who have watched Michael’s video of these two boys agree with him. This video restores their faith in humanity and just loves the beautiful message this video wants to share.
