You don’t need a huge house in order to live happily.
In fact, you don’t even need a standard-looking house in order to live happily–just ask Bruce Winckler, owner of this fairytale cottage by the sea.
When Bruce was ready to build a home on the shoreline of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, he knew he didn’t want some standard mansion home.
So when he came across a whimsical-looking treehouse on the internet, he knew that he wanted to live in something similar.
Bruce got into contact with the builders of the treehouse, Tim Lindberg, and Daniel Huscroft from Lindcroft Custom Dwellings, and asked them if they would help him build a tiny storybook cottage by the sea.
When the two builders saw the location, they knew they could build something incredible there.
They got to work, sourcing as many local materials as they could.
The finished product is something straight out of a fairytale.
The wooden shingles and wavey layout of the structure make this house nothing short of extraordinary.
But it’s not just the house’s unique outer appearance that makes this place incredible–the inside is just as spectacular.
Although it’s much more modern, it makes for a very practical home.
As you walk in the front door, you immediately come into the kitchen area.
There is plenty of space to cook in this space and food storage is not a problem.
It is missing an oven, however, as Bruce was trying to free up some extra space.
But with its two-burner stovetop, sink, and toaster oven, a delicious meal can still be made with ease.
Next, you walk over into the living room, which is just as cozy as you might imagine.
There are a big rock fireplace and chimney that take up an entire wall, commanding your attention and reaching all the way to the ceiling.
Bruce says that it warms the space up very quickly in the wintertime.
Next to the fireplace is a big window that looks out onto the water through the trees.
Beneath the window is a table that Bruce can eat and work from while he enjoys the spectacular view.
There is also a bathroom on the first floor that has all the amenities that you would need in order to do your business and get cleaned up.
From the lower level, you can take the uniquely-built staircase up to the bedroom loft.
There is still enough room to stand straight up in the loft upstairs and it even accommodates a queen-sized bed.
There are places for Bruce to hang his clothes and even room for a small bed-side table.
This tiny cottage really is a masterpiece.
And the boaters that come by in the water have taken notice.
Bruce says that he sometimes feels like he is in a fishbowl since the people who boat by his house always stare.
But he goes on to say that he doesn’t mind it all that much–after all, this house is a true work of art.
And the artists responsible for creating it sure do deserve the attention that it gets.
