No matter how old or young you are, you’re bound to run across jealousy at some point. But jealousy can sometimes make for some funny on-screen performances as seen in this video.
Swing time
The video opens during what looks like a dance recital. The young actors are dressed divinely in pink tutus for the girls and a sharp black tux for the boy. The lights illuminate the stage giving us a glimpse into a top-notch child performance.
The narrator sets up the scene by comparing the boy to Fred Astaire and the girl on the right to Ginger Rogers. Fans of classical musicals will know that Astaire and Rogers is a famous power dance couple who performed together in ten films, including Swing Time among others. The pair were known for their incredible acting talents, their on-screen chemistry, and for famously playing bickering pairs.
Spin and a twirl
The young boy first looks to the girl on the right and holds out a hand. The girl takes his hand and spins in a choreographed move that could only come from practiced dancers. Notice the body language of the pair as they seem to regard each other professionally. But the show calls for two partners for this young boy. So he turns away from his partner and holds out his hand to the one on the left.
You might be watching the pair as the second girl twirls, but try looking at the first girl on the boy’s left. She crosses her arms and she puffs out her cheeks. All she needed to do was stamp her foot and you’d see a clear jealousy fit.
You had your chance
The boy then holds the other girl’s hand then turns towards the one on his right. He reaches out for her hand and sees that she’s not having any of it. She simply keeps her arms crossed and refuses to play along.
You can see the confusion in the boy’s face as he repeatedly offers his hand and gives her a look that says “We’re live, what are you doing?” But no matter what he tries, the girl refuses to budge. She won’t share with the other girl and the poor boy doesn’t know how to handle it.
Giving the finger
The boy speaks to the jealous girl. We don’t know what he’s saying but we can tell that it must have annoyed the girl. She unfolds her arms and gives him a stern look. She then points her finger and wags it at him, almost as if she were scolding him.
You can hear the laughter of the audience if you listen closely. Anyone who saw this performance live had to have been thinking about their favorite comic duos. Add fifteen years to both of these children and you can bet that they would have the makings of a hit rom-com TV show or film.
Stage fright? Not quite
Anyone who’s been on stage knows how challenging it can be. Giving your all takes a lot of skill, practice, and dedication. So when things go wrong, it can go wrong in a big way.
When “little Ginger Rogers” gets frustrated with “little Fred Astaire”, it created a situation that’s funny and worth a watch. But what do you think will happen after the show when the director has a chat with this pair? We don’t know, but we certainly wish we could have seen the post-show.
