In order to win one of the reality TV talent shows, you really need to bring something special to the table. After all, there are many hopefuls that cross their stage every season – so it’s important to stand out.
Hollie Steel from Accrington, England, was only 10-years-old when she was picked to audition for Britain’s Got Talent. But did she have what it takes to impress the judges?
On the day of the competition, Hollie walked out on stage wearing a purple leotard, pink tutu, and her hair pulled back into a bun. It seemed very obvious that she was an adorable, young ballerina about to put on a dance performance.
Little did anyone know that Hollie had a surprise up her sleeve that was about to blow the crowd away.
The schoolgirl began to dance a ballet routine as the song “I Could Have Danced All Night,” blared through the auditorium. She hopped along the stage while the judges watched, looking not so impressed.
Simon, who we know doesn’t hold back his true feelings, had a bored look on his face. Even Hollie’s twirls weren’t enough to make him crack a smile. He could have been thinking what a lot of us probably were – it was like watching an amateur dance recital.
After a short amount of time, it was obvious Simon had had enough.
However, as he began hovering his hand over the buzzer to hopefully end Hollie’s performance, that’s when she revealed her other talent.
The moment the tiny ballerina opened her mouth to sing, she had jaws dropping.
Hollie actually has a really big voice and can sing like a beautiful angel. In a twist, she instead belted out the song “I Could Have Danced All Night” while the judges sat awestruck.
Now, this was the kind of talent they were looking for.
After the schoolgirl’s song ended it was time to hear the judges’ reactions. One by one the judges gushed to Hollie about how “incredible” she was.
Amanda Holden responded with:
“It’s just ridiculous how much talent you have. The voice that came out of you I was stunned at.”
Piers Morgan even passed on the most amazing compliment.
“We’ve seen lots of children on this show in three series now. I have never heard any of them sing as well as you.”
Next, it was Simon’s turn.
It takes a very skilled act to impress Mr. Cowell, who was obviously not happy with Hollie’s dance routine in the beginning. But did her powerful voice win him over? Simon started by telling Hollie what he “didn’t like.”
“I didn’t like what you were wearing because you came over as just a typical little girl who wants to be a ballerina. I wasn’t crazy about the song…”
At this point, even Judge Amanda was rolling her eyes. Could he please just get to the praise already?
Finally, Simon said:
“Then I heard you sing – and I think Hollie you’ve got a fantastic voice.”
Everyone in the audience cheered as the 10-year-old was passed through to the next round of the show. It was a beautiful moment that Hollie will never forget.
In one day, her performance gained over a million views on YouTube.
Hollie’s classic audition is a reminder that it takes a lot of talent to win over the judges. She certainly was able to prove that she’s a shining star!
