Sometimes it’s fun to reminisce about the past, particularly if we’ve experienced a lot of changes in our life. Whenever we go through a meaningful experience, get a new job or move across the country, we go through serious changes. In some cases, maybe it’s only our outlook that has shifted. In others, we might look around and see that our entire environment and the people in it are different as well.
In any case, most of us probably mark the time by taking plenty of pictures and looking back at them from time to time to remind us of who we are. Still, the funny thing we may notice is that although the appearance of things does change as we move forward through time, somethings don’t change much at all. When we look at pictures of our loved ones, we may be struck by how easily we can move back in time and remember—and how we still feel the same way today.
With that in mind, here are 25 examples showing that while time may change, our love does not.
1. From a first date photo to a full family portrait.
In the first photo, these two were only teenagers going on a first date. They decided to take one of those novelty Old West photos to keep the memory forever. Little did they know that their relationship would blossom and they would return there again with their two children in the same pose! Still adorable after all those years.
2. Sometimes the simplest photographs say the most.
As the old saying goes, a picture is worth 1000 words. In the first photo, a father and a daughter in a red dress are sharing an adorable moment in their kitchen. In the second, the exact same situation is taking place many years later—and it’s even in the same kitchen! Some things may change but the bond between these two is as strong as ever.
3. Sometimes you can meet the love of your life when you’re still just a little kid.
In the first picture, two innocent three-year-old kids are riding a carousel together… and it looks like the little girl may have a crush on the boy. As it turns out, they were already onto something that day! As you can see, the couple took another photo in the same position many years later when they were getting engaged and used it as their save the date! True love does exist, people.
4. Don’t let anybody tell you that love fades with age.
Getting married is a big decision—after all, it’s a pledge to spend the rest of your life with someone else! Although we may have absorbed the message that relationships often get stale or boring as we get older, that’s simply not true. As this photo shows, these two are still in love after an entire lifetime of marriage. Just be sure to pick your partner carefully!
5. Sometimes the best friends we love the most aren’t even people!
There’s another famous saying that dogs are man’s best friend and anyone who has a dog knows how true that is. Though we might get our furry companions when they’re just puppies, they end up growing with us throughout the years and being by our side during many difficult moments. As these pictures show, the only thing that has changed here is that their love has only grown over time! Ten years later and still going strong.
6. And there’s definitely nothing than can come between two brothers.
Do you have any cute pictures posing with your siblings when you were kids? Parents love to make children strike these poses while they’re young because they hold so much sentimental value later on. As these pictures show, sometimes that impulse pays off because it gives the family something to recreate later. And these two brothers couldn’t be happier to do it!
7. Still, some things do get a little bit trickier as we get older.
When we’re young, we can take big risks and be a little bit reckless. Sometimes that takes the form of stacking a father and two sons on one tiny bicycle. As adorable as it may be when your kids are little, it’s not as easy to pull off when everyone is a full-grown man. But that didn’t stop this family from trying!
8. What’s even better is if we can hold onto our sense of humor even as we age.
Being a dad is definitely hard work. In addition to supporting your family and keeping your kids safe, you also have to be there to entertain them! It’s moments like these that a goofy sense of humor can come in handy… and you’ll probably end up passing it on to your kids as well. But don’t take our word for it: the proof is in the second picture!
9. Brothers are always going to have the most fun together.
As a stereotype, men are raised to be strong and silent. Although they might get rowdy and get into trouble, there’s the idea of competition between brothers that is widespread in our culture. Still, what this story leaves out is how silly and gentle brothers can be with one another. After all, we never really grow up—we’re all just babies in grown-up bodies!
10. Fathers and sons only seem to get closer over time as well.
As kids, we might be a little intimidated by our dads—even if we idolize them. There’s something mysterious about a grown-up man who goes to work during the day, keeps mostly to himself and does business as a career. Fortunately, time is the great equalizer. The love is always there but the mystery falls away… and then the love can grow even more!
11. Sometimes it’s all about what we’re doing in the moment.
For these four sisters, there’s definitely a lot of love… but a lot of it is for food.
12. And don’t count out the bond between a father and daughter!
These two get bonus points for actually having the original picture in the new picture!
13. Once again, brothers are never going to miss a chance to be silly with one another.
Even after 33 years, these two still know how to make each other laugh.
14. Even better is when you can keep a group of friends together over the long-term.
It’s one thing when your siblings and parents still love you throughout your life—but getting your buddies to pose for a picture after 40 years is no mean feat.
15. Striking the same pose can help put you back in the moment as well.
Family road trips are the best, aren’t they?
16. This is one incredibly close family.
Sometimes you have to go as far as you have to for a great picture.
17. Don’t expect a silly family to get more serious over time, either.
Even after we grow up, sometimes you have to prove to everyone that you can still be a kid if you want to.
18. It’s fun to revisit the big moments in our life with the people we love.
Even after 23 years, the memories are probably still fresh!
19. Your big sister is always going to be your big sister.
And sometimes you have to take a picture like this one to prove that.
20. And people aren’t the only thing that grows over time, either!
Growing a tree that big takes plenty of love as well.
21. Even if your appearance changes, the love will always be there!
Trying to stay a punk and a rebel for 40 years is tough for anybody, let’s be honest.
22. Sometimes you still need to have a sleepover with your siblings as an adult.
Still seems just as much fun as ever!
23. Still, we might make some more mature choices as we get older…
Still lots of love there, just a little bit more alcohol involved as well.
24. We can truly be vulnerable whenever we’re with our siblings.
And let’s face it: we might even take more naps when we’re older than when we’re young!
25. Did everything in the world get smaller somehow?
Time may play tricks on our mind but it can never fool our hearts!
