“Ambush Makeovers” are all about giving deserving people the attention they need to put the focus back on themselves.

Then they lavish them with free makeup, hair, and clothing before revealing them to their loved ones – and themselves (in fact, the ambush-ees are the last to see themselves!).

One was gifted to a mother of five “who never takes time for herself,” and the other gave a woman who had just lost 40 pounds yet another update to her look.

First up: Colleen

50-year-old Colleen from Milwaukee, Wisconsin was up first and while she was already donning a tiara for her birthday, she was willing to get some help turning herself from a princess into a queen.

Her friends has specifically brought her to the plaza outside the studio in the hopes she would be chosen.

It’s safe to say that everyone was pretty thrilled that their dreams came true! As a mother of 5, Colleen rarely has the time or energy to treat herself. But the team was ready to work their magic.

Long hair, a slim build, and a bright smile already gave them an easy canvas to work with – they just needed to add some glam and get her out of those yoga pants and sneakers.

Everyone but Hoda is pretty calm about seeing Colleen after her makeover. The friends she traveled with to New York are all blindfolded before the big reveal and waiting patiently.

Will they even recognize her? How drastic a makeover will it be? Did they chop off all that hair?

Well, we’d say it was a pretty big surprise for her friends!

They did cut off and straighten some hair and give her a dress to die for!

NOW she’s ready to hit the town for her 50th birthday, that’s for sure!

Next up: Michelle

But the real tear-jerker was in the second act when 48-year-old Michelle from Norfolk, Virginia got bopped with the magic wand.

After losing 40 pounds (and still going strong) she was eager for a new look for her upcoming 30th high school class reunion.

She and her son were thrilled when they were picked out of the crowd.

And she’s sure is a cutie!

Just look at those cheekbones!

Once they get her out of that neon shirt, we’re confident more of the attention will be drawn to that friendly face. Everyone’s already excited out in the plaza since Michelle is willing to have her hair chopped off.

Her son Daniel is getting ready for the surprise as he stands by Hoda and Kathie Lee nervously.

But we think that his big smile means he knows it’s going to turn out great.

Jill Matin holds up the pants Michelle wore to the show (old size 22 jeans that she could just slip on after losing so much weight – now she’s in a 14!).

We sense a big wardrobe makeover coming here!

But what did they do with the hair? The glasses?

When Daniel sees his mom, he is positively gobsmacked!

And he’s not the only one – that makeover took decades off her look and the comments on the video are alight with surprise.

“The 2nd lady literally looks like a teenager WOW,” said one viewer.

It’s a must-see! It might even bring a tear to your eye just like it did for Daniel. (Good thing there’s a tissue box hanging above Hoda!)
