Fans went absolutely ballistic for singer Trevin Hunte at the blind auditions for Season 3 of the U.S. reality singing competition The Voice.
And just two notes into his song you’ll know why – he has one of the most effortlessly smooth and versatile voices around, the kind people dream about having.
The judges were blown away within seconds as he sang the song “Listen.”
And, listen, no one chooses a Beyoncé song unless they have the pipes to pull it off.
Check out the way judges Blake Shelton and CeeLo Green look at each other during his epic performance.
He’s nailing this one.
Christina Aguilera, however, is the first to slam her red button.
During blind auditions, judges don’t see the contestants and they have to be impressed enough to hit the button in order to turn their chairs around. This lets the contestant know that a judge is willing to have them on their team throughout the competition.
After Aguilera’s vote of confidence, Hunte’s family and friends backstage are elated, screaming and jumping for joy.
And Hunte keeps his act together, moving through the performance without missing a note. His impressive vocal range makes it almost seem easy.
Blake Shelton is the next to throw his hat in the ring and give his seal of approval.
Now CeeLo is really feeling it and riles up the audience before also pressing his button to turn around and get a first glance of the performer.
Hunte has been compared to everyone from Whitney Houston to Luther Vandross and if you watched the show, you know he did, in fact, end up on Team CeeLo.
But despite the beautiful performance, there seems to be a holdout.
Adam Levine knows Hunte is killing it (in the good way!), but he still has his back to the stage.
Performers in the blind auditions don’t need approval from the entire panel to move on to the next round. But is Levine really going to begrudge this amazing performer a full string of yeses?
Shelton can’t believe it and even gets out of his chair to see what’s going on with Levine.
It could simply be that the former Maroon 5 frontman knows there’s some serious talent here but wants to build a different kind of team for himself.
After all, the judges have to mentor their singers throughout the competition.
He’s really giving it some thought and the song is almost over. It’s actually pretty suspenseful to see whether or not he’s going to press that button.
With Hunte singing his heart out, the audience waits.
And you’ll have to as well! We don’t want to spoil the surprise, so you’ll have to scroll down and watch the video to see Levine’s final decision.
But regardless of his choice, the young singer would move on in the competition, lasting through the Battle Rounds and going all the way to the Knockout Round.
But, as many fans of the show know, Hunte didn’t win that year, much to their dismay. He was the odd’s on favorite for the win up until that point.
