Texas mom rattles doctors by delivering three sets of twins in 9 minutes flat

One element of pregnancy that can scarily overshadow the excitement swirling around the imminent birth of a baby is the delivery. Some moms have an enviously super easy time while others really struggle to bring that beautiful bundle into the world.

Some deliveries fly by without mom needing pain meds or experiencing difficulties while other moms-to-be endure unwelcome complications or must switch up their birthing plan and change gears to accommodate for a cesarean section.

Texas mom Thelma Chiaka stunned everyone when she miraculously delivered six babies within nine minutes at The Woman’s Hospital of Texas. Not one, not two, not even three!

She delivered six babies in less than 10 minutes like a champ!

She welcomed into the world two sets of twin boys and one set of twin girls in the early morning hours.

The odds of having sextuplets are estimated to be one in 4.7 billion. The chances of getting struck by lightning at some point in one’s life is about 1 in 3,000, according to National Geographic.

A study by raisingmultiples.org suggested that one or fewer sets of sextuplets are born each year in the U.S. The increase in multiples has been associated with the increased use of fertility therapies and older maternal ages of moms. According to Very Well Family, six sets of sextuplets were born in the United States in 2004.

Sextuplets fascinate people, from the Dilley “Six Pack” born in 1993 to the sextuplets appearing on the former television series “Jon & Kate Plus 8” that documented the daily life of the Gosselin family who also has twins.

The babies were born weighing from one pound, 12 ounces up to two pounds, 14 ounces. They were initially in stable condition and taken to the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit.

“I have always looked forward to getting pregnant, so when it came, I embraced it with all the love I have.”

Thelma named her beautiful bundles of joy Zuriel, Zina, Kamsi, Kaeto, Kachi and Kaobi. A dedicated team of doctors guided her the whole time, including Dr. Ziad Haidar, maternal fetal medicine specialist.

“Miss Thelma, she was a champion because she kept her smile until the last minute. She had her smile all over the pregnancy and it wasn’t an easy pregnancy on her, but she did wonderful.”

The babies came home from the hospital one at a time, which helped Themla acclimate to motherhood. She and the children’s father are blessed to have had several helping hands while caring for the babies, she said.

The amount of diaper changes and bottles has to be unreal!

“I feel blessed having such beautiful babies.”

People couldn’t believe Thelma and the babies’ story. They expressed their surprise on the hospital’s Facebook page. Juna Sama Wood said Thelma was “way more likely to win the PowerBall lottery” than deliver six babies in less than 10 minutes.
