No one should ever have to be subjected to something as tragic as this.

Unfortunately, these two teens had to. There is a silver lining though, and that is how they chose to handle the terrible situation.

In Minooka, Illinois, two teenage boys, 16-year-old Hunter Hasenjaeger and 17-year-old Collin Barry, were just heading home, minding their own business.

They were first met with a Chrysler 300 that was completely totaled in the front. The driverโ€™s side was also severely damaged. Then, to make matters worse they heard a baby girl screaming and crying at the top of her lungs. According to the two teens, it was extremely loud.

After that, the boys came across 27-year-old Alexis Danley, who was later pronounced dead. Not only was she the babyโ€™s mother, but she was also 6 months pregnant.

The man who caused the crash had been drinking and driving that night and also crashed into another car that was carrying 3 people. Luckily none of them were hurt.

Hasenjaeger and Barry didnโ€™t know it at the time, but that man would soon be arrested for driving over the influence and possession of marijuana.

When Danley was found by the two boys, her hand was reaching back to the baby seat, where her 1-year-old sat crying and terrified.

The police hadnโ€™t arrived yet, but the boys felt a connection to the baby and felt a need to do something. And so they quickly became heroes.

โ€œI kind of moved the momโ€™s hand and rotated the baby and unstrapped itโ€ฆ Picked it upโ€ฆ I was leaning inside the car so I just pulled her out like that.โ€

โ€œOnce we got the baby it was so calm,โ€ they added. And there was not a single scratch on her.

Itโ€™s a heartbreaking story. No one should ever be put in that situation. However there is a silver lining, and that is that the baby is safe and that these two young men turned out to be life-saving heroes.
