If they hadn't stepped in when did, this would have been a very different story.

As a police officer, their job is to respond to any and all calls when citizens believe they are having an emergency. Many times, they must rush into the face of danger without a second thought and handle a situation that can quickly get out of hand.

As much as they are the ones who are doing the rescuing, sometimes it is them who need to be rescued.

When one Deputy responded to the scene of an accident she, found herself in an altercation with a drunk driver that quickly escalated.

In Washington, one Deputy found herself in one of those situations when she responded to the scene of an accident that involved multiple vehicles and a suspect trying to escape the scene of the crime.

Around 1 a.m. Deputy Elliot responded to the scene and was quickly informed the suspect of the accident was trying to escape.

On July 18, Deputy Elliot of the King County Sheriff’s Office was heading home around 1 a.m. when she responded to the scene of a car crash.

When she was checking on those involved in the accident, one of the drivers informed her the driver who caused the accident was drunk and was trying to escape.

As she tried to place the drunk driver under arrest he got violent and overpowered her.

That’s when 5 teens decided stepped up to help.

When Deputy Elliot rushed to stop him he quickly got violent. As things escalated the two struggled as she tried to detain him, but he soon overpowered her and placed his hands around her neck. But Deputy Elliot was in luck.

Soon, she heard teenagers shouting and advancing towards her and the man. The teens swiftly overpowered the man and held him down until Elliot could place him in handcuffs. On King County Sheriff’s Office Facebook, they describe what took place in detail writing,

“Deputy Elliott called out to the male to stop, but he kept trying to stumble away from her. Deputy Elliott had to jog up to the male and was able to grab on to him to advise him he was not free to leave and was being detained. The male immediately turned around in a fighting stance with his arms up in the air. A struggle began and at one point Deputy Elliott was able to get the suspect onto the ground and call for help on her radio.

Suddenly, the suspect wrapped his arms around Deputy Elliott’s neck, put her in a headlock and began squeezing. She struggled to get out of the hold but thankfully did not lose consciousness. About this time, Deputy Elliott heard several men’s voices yelling “get off of her.” A group of young men, pictured below, jumped on the suspect and struggled with him as Deputy Elliott was able to get free. They held the suspects shoulders and legs to the ground to allow Deputy Elliott to handcuff the man.”

After the situation was handled and the teens, as well as Deputy Elliot, had a moment to calm down and gave each other a big group hug.

For their fast action and bravery, the sheriff’s office rewarded the boys.

The hug was not enough to show these teens how grateful Deputy Elliot and the sheriff’s department are for these boys’ bravery. So in order to thank the boys properly, they gave each of the teens the Medal of Heroism Award.

They continue to write on their original Facebook post,

“Deputy Elliott sustained scrapes and bruising but thankfully she was not seriously injured. We cannot thank these five young men enough for coming to Deputy Elliott’s rescue. They quite possibly saved her life. The photo was taken just a few minutes after the teens helped her. Moms and Dads, you should be proud of these kids!

The suspect was arrested for felony assault of an Officer and DUI and booked into SCORE jail by Auburn PD, who will be the primary agency on the case.”

If not for these five boys’ quick responses this story could’ve gone very differently.

Because of these 5 teenagers, Deputy Elliot was able to walk away with her life with only a few scrapes and bruises, and place the drunk driver under arrest. If these boys decided to not step up in this situation it could have gone a very different way for Deputy Elliot.

Although police officers are supposed to be the people who we count on to save us, it does not make them exempt from facing danger each time they respond to a call. We, just as Deputy Elliot and King County’s Sherriff’s Office, are sure thankful for these five boys who quickly stepped up with immense bravery to rescue someone in need.
