The battle rounds on the show The Voice are always so much fun.
The way it works is the coaches choose two singers from their team to go up against each other, competing head to head in a battle duet. Both artists sing the same song and alternate back and forth so the judges get to see how their unique talents match up alongside one another. Then, after the performance, one of the two gets knocked out and sent home.
It is a whole lot of pressure for the singers, but there is really no better way to see who wants to stay in the competition more.
It encourages the competitors to go all out and give it everything they’ve got out there on the stage.
One battle round that illustrates this perfectly was that of Jasmin versus Richard on The Voice Kids Germany.
The two youngsters somehow managed to make John Legend’s “All of Me” even more epic than it already is, which is really saying something.
The coaches knew that making the kids sing a John Legend song was a great way to put them to the test.
After all, Legend is one of the best singers of this generation. Most people can’t hold a candle to the man’s voice. However, those who do pretty much by default enter the very small group of people who are certified top tier talents.
There is no arguing with results, and honestly, when Jasmin first began singing, chills traveled straight down our spines!
Her voice is hauntingly good.
She sang the first few lines of the track, and then, it was Richard’s turn. All we have to say is, wow… he was just as great!
One amazing part of the performance is the fact that both of the teenagers were able to mask their German accents while singing.
They belted out the John Legend hit like complete pros in impeccable English as good or better than any native English speakers.
As the battle progressed, things only got more and more intense too, with the performance building up into a huge crescendo that had the entire crowd on the edge of their seats.
Who would the judges choose to send on to the next round of the competition and who would get knocked out?
For the final chorus of the song, both Richard and Jasmin sang together in perfect harmony.
They were completely in sync with each other and it was a beautiful way to end what is undoubtedly one of the best battle round performances we’ve ever seen. Unfortunately, though, all good things must come to an end, and ultimately, one of the two had to go home.
The judges were brought to tears by how stressed out the decision made them.
The two were both so good and we’re sure it was an incredibly tough choice, yet it had to be done.
And… Drumroll, please…
The judges finally made their choice.
The crowd went totally wild, but it was a bittersweet moment for everyone.
However, their performance that day will live on forever as one of the all-time best battle rounds ever to take place on The Voice Kids. Their rendition of the John Legend song is something you just have to see for yourself.
