If you drive a car, you probably know the feeling of car troubles all too well. It usually always happens at the most inconvenient moment. Maria Arriaga from Albuquerque, New Mexico, was on her way to pick up her daughter from a practice, but Murphy’s Law kicked in and her car broke down. To make things even worse, it was quite a rainy day and it started pouring heavily when her car stopped.
However, Maria met a teenager who she describes as an “angel” who did a heartwarming act of kindness. Maria’s car broke down just ten minutes away from her place on Dennis Chavez Boulevard, but there was no way she could make it in time to pick up her daughter. With a broken-down car, she was essentially trapped on the road in the pouring rain. She stepped into her car to take shelter from the rain until help arrived.
Maria spent quite a while in her car and several people passed by, but most were quite reluctant to help.
Maria also tried to push the car by herself to safety, and even a nearby police officer wasn’t willing to aid her.
The woman mentions on Facebook that a high school senior from Atrisco, Joseph Tapia, suddenly stopped to help. Maria told the young man that everything would be okay and help was on the way.
The young man’s kindness didn’t stop there, however, as he offered to let the woman drive his own car to pick up her daughter.
Joseph didn’t want Maria’s daughter to get wet while she was waiting for her mom to pick her up.
How incredibly selfless and sweet.
The rain started to get worse, and that’s when Maria offered Joseph her car keys so he could take a seat inside to take shelter from the rain. He politely refused, saying that it was just water and he would be fine. Eventually, the young man waited over an hour in the pouring rain to help Maria out. What a fantastic young man!
Maria posted her story on the Facebook page Love What Matters, which quickly went viral:
“I was 10 minutes from getting home when my car died on me on Unser and Dennis Chavez. A senior from Atrisco was the only one that stopped and helped. Not even a cop stopped when they saw him push my car all by himself. To top it off it was raining like crazy. He checked my car and told me ‘get in your car so you won’t get wet’. I told him someone was on their way to help me but that I was going to get in to call my daughter because she was about to get out of practice. His response was ‘Take my car and pick her up so she won’t get wet while waiting for you.’ It started raining harder and I rolled my window down and told him ‘Please go in your car or you can leave I will be Ok.’ He said ‘no I will wait here outside and wait for someone to come and I don’t want to leave you alone with your kids, also it’s just water.’ He waited almost an hour with me. His name is Joseph Tapia. GOD Bless this young man for helping when he didn’t have to. He was my angel today! Please share so all of Albuquerque knows we do have kind, helpful young men, and Angels! Joseph Tapia!!”
