Ryan Boz and Alexis Garrish are standout teenagers.
While they enjoy the usual activities like listening to music, hanging out with friends, and chilling in their favorite spots, they’ve also got quite a list of accomplishments under their belts.
The attractive pair are known for their incredible dancing skills and the countless awards they’ve won over the years.
Their expertise in dance isn’t limited to just one style, either.
Ryan and Alexis can demonstrate dance step after dance step, whether for hip-hop, jazz, contemporary, or ballet. But if you want to see just how amazing these two are on the dance floor, you have to check out their swing dancing routines.
It’s a pretty surprising choice for two teenagers, isn’t it?
One would assume the duo would opt for modern dances instead of swing but it’s their chemistry on the dance floor that magically brings to life the styles of decades past.
Swing dances first surfaced during the 1920s and continued to evolve until the 1940s. With hundreds of styles of swing dancing, only a few managed to survive beyond the swing era: the Lindy Hop, Charleston, and Balboa.
Thanks to talented individuals like Ryan and Alexis, these surviving styles are still well-loved today.
While the pair have been dancing together for years, people began taking notice when they both appeared in the US Open Swing Dance Championships as competitors. As one of the most popular events for swing dancers worldwide, the US Open Swing Competition also happens to be the oldest swing dance championship in the world.
When Ryan and Alexis joined the competition in 2016, it came as no surprise that they emerged with quite a victory: bagging first place in the young adult category.
As early as then, it was evident that the two young dancers know how to make a lasting impression with their presentation, from sporting complementing outfits that glisten with each movement, to incorporating creativity and style into their routines.
They came prepared with fancy footwork and a fast-paced routine.
Prompting cheers from the crowd, the two were immediate favorites with their high-energy number, carrying out step after step without missing a beat.
It didn’t stop there.
After earning first place in their division, the pair began to conjure up a plan for their comeback. And what a success it was!
Their 2017 routine immediately went viral online, garnering over 300K views.
Dressed in red and black outfits, the teens once more took to the stage to showcase their expertise in swing dance.
“This is a tribute dance to those that came before us.”
From “Fever” by Elvis Presley to “Baby Workout” by Jackie Wilson, Ryan and Alexis gave an unforgettable performance, complete with the costume effects and facial expressions.
They definitely know how to pay tribute to amazing dance styles of the past. Through their number, they brought a wonderful era to life once more.
Their 2017 performance is just the kind of number that will have you traipsing down memory lane towards a time you could only wish you had lived. Think dreamy, timeless, and romantic.
To elevate your appreciation for classic dance, press play and let Ryan and Alexis show you how it’s done.
Experience the swing era through their fun routine and prepare to be amazed as you watch them move across the floor.
