Tap dancing might look fun and exciting, but it’s certainly not easy to execute. It requires coordination, foot movement, strength in your lower extremities, and balance. Plus, you also need to be mindful of your poise and symmetry, particularly if you are joining tap dancing competitions.

Kaiden Currie knew that competing in the International Dance Organization World Tap Dance Championships won’t be easy.

He prepared hard for it. He trained for about 6 months to perfect his routine. He made sure that he was focused and ready as soon as the music hit.

And true enough, Kaiden delivered an awesome performance that rocked the world.

Kaiden stepped on the stage with confidence. Just looking at him, you wouldn’t sense any hint of nervousness. He was even smiling before his routine.

That doesn’t come as a surprise. This wasn’t’ the first time he joined a tap dancing competition. He joined his first international competition in 2016

He shared:

“This time when I was going on stage, I wasn’t nervous. I was very calm because I knew a lot of the people there and I felt more comfortable in the arena, and I felt more prepared this year.”

When the music played, he started moving gracefully. His feet began tapping to Look At Me Now. It’s a 2011 hit from American recording artist Chris Brown.

Kaiden’s entire routine was pretty impressive.

Every step seemed calculated and rehearsed. Even his facial expressions were on point.

With his moves and excellent delivery, Kaiden was able to win the junior male solo title. He wasn’t able to win any gold medal in the solo competition prior to it so it was really special for him. He was able to beat 24 highly skilled tap dancers to get that gold medal.

He was also able to win another gold medal as part of a formation and silver medals for performing in a small group and as part of a trio.

In total, he now has a bronze, two silvers, and six golds.

Kaiden has been tap dancing since he was a kid.

His mother and grandmother were experienced in dancing. In fact, when Kaiden was young, the two used to teach lessons somewhere in Lynnfield. There, little Kaiden would tag along and try out dance routines with them. He remembers sitting in a corner and learn the dances.

As he grew older, he started developing an interest in tap dancing.

He started taking formal lessons at a young age. And even though there’s not a lot of male tap dancers in the country, he never felt alone. He has a good school that pushes them to be exactly what they want to be.

One day, Kaiden aspires to become a dance instructor.

He wants to have his one studio and teach kids. In particular, he would love to teach little boys. He knows how hard it is for a boy to dance when there’s no male teacher to guide you.
