I can't believe how quickly this guy stepped up to the plate in a time of need!

It’s a nice, quiet, normal day in the neighborhood and a six year old boy, Mason Lindman, is playing outside with his friends.

But suddenly, he finds himself being attacked by a dog.

The dog isn’t a stray, it is owned by one of the neighbors, but somehow finds itself roaming the area free of a leash. In the video found on the security camera on the house, it actually looks like the boy is doing everything right by holding his hand out towards the dog and reaching down.

But for some reason, the dog must have been feeling stressed and threatened, and jumps on Mason.

His friends are frozen in shock for a moment, obviously and understandably afraid in the situation.

They then run, one to Mason’s house, presumably to alert his mother.

But this leaves the boy alone, pinned by the dog on the driveway.

Mason is being bitten by the dog, screaming and unable to escape.

“My son, he was just laying on the ground, I mean he’s six. Like he… He kind of knows what to do but… He’s never been put in a situation like that.” -Jillian Lindman, Mason’s mother

This is where Grant Brown comes in like the hero he is.

Grant is only nineteen years old, and just so happens to be outside when he sees the boy being attacked by the dog, which springs him into action.

He sprints from all the way down the street, and approaches the dog with nothing on his mind except that he has to get the dog off Mason.

The dog takes notice of Grant and leaves Mason alone.

Instead, it chases after Grant who runs the opposite direction, luring the dog away from Mason, giving him enough time to get inside.

That is some seriously quick thinking, and Grant even outruns the dog for some time.

Eventually, the dog does tackle Grant to the ground though. He is able to get away easier, but he doesn’t get away without suffering a few injuries from the dog.

Grant also had the quick thinking to get to the grass before being tackled, to soften his landing if only a little bit.

Talk about handling yourself well in a dangerous situation!

Sadly, both Grant and Mason sustained some injuries that required visits to the hospital.

Mason was bitten on the back of the head which required staples, while Grant had a deep cut to his hand. Both will be okay!

“I looked back and my shoes came off, I tripped and fell, the dog was on top of me before I know it… And I knew that I had to keep his mouth away from me.” -Grant Brown

Thanks to Grant’s quick thinking and heroic actions, he very well might have saved a life!

“I just want to give the guy a hug. There’s nothing I could do but just say thank you.” -Jillian Lindman

What’s nice to see is that Grant is getting plenty of hugs at home already, his mum no doubt happy to see her heroic son safe!

Remember, there’s no such thing as bad dogs, just bad dog owners. Show your dogs love and train them properly, they won’t be aggressive. That’s a taught behaviour in the vast majority of cases. I was happy to hear the owner was cited for this incident.

We should all be looking out for our neighbors and trying to act more like Grant!
