That’s what 19-year-old Josie Bowers from Canada reiterated on one of her TikTok videos which have gone viral recently.

It’s about a scary incident that happened to her when she was still 15 years old.

Thankfully, during that time, she recalled a tip from her police officer stepdad. The said tip literally saved her life from the terrifying experience she had four years ago. While we always say “mothers know best”, it seems like fathers do know it too!

A trending video thread.

On her TikTok account @josiebowers10, Bowers posted a series of videos telling her unforgettable scary encounter in her hotel room back when she was still 15. The most viewed video of the said thread has already racked 12.2 million views in just over a week.

She said in the video that during the incident, she was on vacation with her family in Ocean City, Maryland, USA. She was alone in her room, and when she’s about to go to the shower, she heard weird noises coming from her door.

She walked towards the door to see what’s causing the noise and was taken aback by what she saw.

Someone was trying to open her door from the outside using a contraption!

She was utterly stunned when the door opened a bit and her initial reaction was to slam the door back. According to her, she also turned the deadbolt in a flash.

When the door was locked back in, the guys were kind of talking outside.

They pretended to be staff of the hotel and claimed to be there to fix her hotel room’s door.

“So they tell me your keycard is broken and we need to get into the room and fix your keypad for you. And so I open the door a tad bit, to see if it was a worker. It clearly wasn’t, they were in jeans and a T-shirt. Hilton keeps it pretty classy, not the attire,” Bowers said on the TikTok video.

Thankfully, she recalled a tip from her police officer stepdad.

It’s a flashback from her memory that literally saved her from all sorts of danger. She remembered her stepdad telling her not to let people know she’s alone.

So at that crucial moment, she applied the lesson in a situation that could possibly be a “life and death” one.

Bowers said, “I yelled ‘Hey dad, there’s someone here to fix the door.’ As soon as they thought that I wasn’t alone – and potentially my dad was there – they ran, they were gone.”

Quick thinking for a 15-year-old if I may say. Dad’s lessons definitely paid off big time during that moment.

Bowers wants her experience to be a lesson for everyone.

She said, “I’m glad I had this experience so I can teach people about it. Obviously, I’m safe but it could have ended up a lot worse. Be safe, you can get door stoppers, always put on the deadbolt.”

This lesson goes to everyone, especially for tourists who are traveling alone. In situations like this, it’s always best to be ready than to be sorry. Before anything bad actually happens, we know it’s hard but try your best to compose yourself even during such situations.

And again, just like what Bowers said, “Always put on the deadbolt!”
