Sarah Holliday’s little brother is making headlines for a letter he wrote to his mom in high school.

After she posted a photo of a hilarious note he wrote to his mother after missing the school bus to Twitter, he’s become a viral sensation.

While the letter was written in 2017, she just dug it up and in less than a week, it’s been liked almost 1 million times and retweeted by over 200k people!

She captioned the photo “never forget the time my brother missed the bus and wrote my mom this note.”

The letter begins with the formality of a kid who knows he might be in trouble.

“As your son, I regret to inform you that I’ve missed my means of public transportation,” he wrote.

Uh oh!

The letter continues in truly classic style, designed to acknowledge the emotions his mother might be having:

“I know you must be on a roller coaster of emotions right now but rest assured, I’ve decided to stay home.”

Oh, we’re sure she’s resting quite assured of something at this point!

But, never fear, the student thought this decision through thoroughly.

“This was a tough decision to make while you were gone for 20 minutes. I’m probably in my bed moping about the fact I can’t go to school so please don’t interrupt me. If you require any further assistance, please see the pros/cons chart on the backside.”

We like that he’s asking not to be interrupted in his time of reflection. It must have been a truly hard life choice.

But in the 20 minutes his mother was gone, he not only made his decision, but made it thoroughly, even going through the pros and cons of his actions.

Among the reasons it was worth missing the bus? It’s his first day home this quarter and he assures his mother his “grade will be fine.”

Even more importantly, he could just feel a bad day coming on:

“Today was gonna be a bad one, can’t get over my hair.”

We’ve all been there! It’s tough to overcome a bad hair day and you might as well give up and stay in bed while you’re still at an age to get away with it!

Luckily, he’s honest with himself and his mother about the potential downsides of his actions.

He clearly understands that this would make a dangerous habit, though he calls it “doubtful” that this behavior will continue.

The other con?

“You’ll have to call the school and tell them I’ve got polio.”

Oof, that is a downside since polio is pretty rare. In fact, she’d have to call the CDC as well. We think he’s going to need a more realistic excuse.

As you might imagine, commenters had a field day with the note.

While Sarah doesn’t reveal the age of her brother, commenters seem to have learned that he was in high school – so don’t let the handwriting fool you. He’s certainly old enough to be clever!

And the children’s mom weighed in in the comments to say she felt compelled to let him stay home after his creative note.

She also confirmed that he is, in fact, a good student and clearly needed a day off.

Don’t we all!
