The father of 16-year-old Johnathon ‘Johnny’ Crow from Port Huron, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack on the first of April.

His father John was just 49 years old and his son was there when he had the attack. Despite valiant efforts, doctors were not able to resuscitate the man.

Johnathon is a huge heavy metal fan and is a particularly large fan of Alice Cooper. Johnathon and his father had a very close relationship and the two also bonded over music. His dad always brought him to guitar lessons at the Port Huron Music Center.

Recently, Johnathon turned sixteen and was given a surprise by his sister Chandler Mae.

She blindfolded him on his sixteenth birthday and took him to the local music shop he’d always spend some time in with his dad.

Since Johnathon had been following guitar lessons, he has grown particularly fond of a black Dean Razorback guitar. It’s a model that is extensively used in the heavy metal world by a number of famous bands, and it features a striking and unique design. In other words, it’s easy to see the appeal.

Chandler started filming when they arrived at the music store.

It turns out Johnathon’s father had already purchased the guitar he’s always wanted months in advance because he was afraid he wouldn’t get one in time.

The gift also came with a birthday card from his father. When the store clerk says “This is for you, man”, Johnathon gets quite emotional. When he opens up the package only for the coveted Dean Razorback to be revealed, he bursts into tears.

The owner of the Port Huron Music Center was happy to share this experience with him and talked to CNN.

“It was a really emotional moment for everybody. Not a dry eye in the house.”

He also acknowledged that father and son shared a very special bond together, sharing their love for music.

“His dad brought him in for lessons every week. He was a very involved dad.”

When the store heard about his father’s death, they made sure to tuck away the Razorback guitar and keep it hidden for months until the birthday.

“We tucked it away for him so nobody would play it.”

After Johnathon’s sister posted the footage which quickly went viral, Alice Cooper mentioned that they will provide the family with a backstage pass for their upcoming concert in Johnathon’s home state.

A crowdfunding campaign was also set-up for the young man to cover for his guitar tuition, with a total of over $17,000 amassed in less than two days.

After he graduates high school, Johnathon aspires to go to college so the money would definitely go to good use.

And him receiving it.
