Those who are movie buffs know there’s a variety of ways that people can “battle it out.” It doesn’t necessarily have to be in a boxing ring though. One very innocent (but entertaining) way is with a good old-fashioned dance-off.
We’ve seen dance battles in films like Grease, House Party, and Girls Just Want to Have Fun. Yet, how often do you get to witness one in person? Let alone, when the two contenders are a teen and a statue.
Go grab some popcorn because you’re invited to a dubstep dance showdown! It’s an epic battle that lit the internet on fire and has been watched millions of times. So, who are you rooting for?
A guy named Noah Kenaley (aka Noster) takes on Eclypse, a silver robot-statue.
Even before it begins you know it’s gonna be a good one. No wonder a bunch of shoppers gathered to watch.
The video starts with both dancers doing a quick stretch in preparation for what’s to come. Eclypse points to his opponent inviting him to go first, and Noster gladly accepts.
With a small crowd watching from the sidelines, he goes into action busting out dance moves that are slow, sharp, and hypnotic. In the background is Skrillex’s remix of the electronic track “Levels,” by the late Swedish DJ, Avicii.
Noster’s speed picks up moments into the battle as he shows off his talent. Let’s just say, he’s a fantastic dancer!
His popping techniques complement the beats of the dubstep music and he appears almost like he’s a mechanical being himself. According to Noster’s YouTube channel, he’s a “musician, dancer and artist.”
The teen’s turn eventually ends and the crowd claps.
But before Eclypse shows off what he can do – he gives his opponent a “you were so-so” hand-gesture. Ooooh, that’s a pretty brave thing to do!
Alright statue, let’s see what you got.
What makes Eclypse’s situation slightly different is he’s confined to a small circular platform for his dancing. He begins very slowly, creating the appearance that the base is actually what’s turning.
Eclypse starts dishing out his robotic moves that also combine well with the electronic music. He’s a real “dancing machine” with some unbelievable talent!
As you might have guessed, Eclypse has experience in the dancing world. He’s a member of The Millennium Robots, a street-style dance performance group in Cincinnati that focuses on the specific style of “robotic animation.” But according to their Facebook page, they “represent, do and respect all street style dances.”

When it comes to Eclypse being painted silver, there’s a reason behind it. The Millennium Robots share on their page:
“Using the silver color as a metaphor to represent our creative ability, we hope to give people the courage to explore and nurture their own imaginations and personal talents.”

The statue really is an awesome dancer, but Noster is too.
Although an actual winner isn’t named in the battle – it’s obvious they won people’s respect all across the internet.
Since being posted in 2013, it’s racked up more than 17.9 million views on YouTube. Noster (Noah) even provided an update in the comments about where the video led him.
“woa. .happy 2020 . i never thought this video would come this far at all uploading it but this video jump started my whole YouTube & allowed me start up a whole lifestyle around art, making music and dancing . thank you to everyone supporting me through this journey .”
Noster’s YouTube channel is full of other performance videos, including one where he had a “rematch” with Eclypse. But let’s save that for another day…
You might never be able to witness a real dance battle in person – but luckily there will always be movies and videos like these to keep us amused.
