Of all the sports broadcasted on television, figure skating has to be the most captivating and aesthetically pleasing.
And regardless of the background music’s tempo, there’s no denying it’s also one of the most soothing sights to watch.
A figure skater’s impressive ability to gracefully move across the ice while doing leg raises, twirls, and other ballet and contemporary dance inspired steps is enough proof that it’s not a sport to be taken lightly.
Figure skating is definitely an art. It takes commitment, patience, and practice. It’s also incredibly captivating – after all, there’s just something about the way costumes stand out against the smooth, icy surface and how, with each swift movement, even each carefully thought up ensemble seems to come alive, too.
And to further build up your curiosity and appreciation for figure skating, here are the women of Team Surprise.
The award-winning figure skating group is known as the world’s most successful team. Established in the 80s, the synchronized skating team is known for their unique choreographic style, highlighted by carefully chosen classical music. Even before they prepared to get in formation, the crowd was already cheering wildly, holding up colorful signs.
Clearly a group that set the bar high, the girls stepped on to the ice sporting long-sleeved black tops with matching skirts, accentuated up by corset inspired tops in bright colors underneath. The vivid hues of their costumes added a dash of playfulness to their group’s look.
When the sixteen-member strong team began moving in perfect synchronization across the ice, the crowd erupted into deafening cheers.
To think it was barely the beginning of their routine!
When Team Surprise gets on the ice, you just know they mean business.
The group choreography was nothing short of remarkable.
Despite being a fairly large team, each member stood out beautifully as they all glided gracefully across the rink.
They were the quintessential group for incomparable team dynamics.
Without missing a beat, they transitioned from one amazing formation to another. Using the spacious rink to their advantage, the group of figure skaters kept the audience on their toes with unexpected lifts and mid-air splits.
There was barely any pausing in between steps and formations, either. To the admiring spectator, it looked like quite an exhausting routine. And we’re positive it is.
Mastering the art of figure skating isn’t for the weak.
It demands hours of rigorous work, discipline, effort, and in some cases, cooperation and harmony. Team Surprise exemplified teamwork with the way they magnified each other’s strengths and pulled off an amazing routine in perfect synchronicity.
You’ll definitely be amazed at how effortlessly they pulled off their routine.
It may be a choreographed number but they performed in such a way that it looked so natural. It’s really the type of performance that will further inspire aspiring figure skaters everywhere.
