Some lucky shoppers didn’t know they were in for a surprise at a Carrefour Market one afternoon in France.
Carrefour is a popular French grocery store chain with branches all over the world from Morocco to Argentina. It usually provides a shopping experience just like any other.
But while shoppers were adding items to their cart, some unusual things were happening around them.
This guy went leaping into the air, raising only a little bit of suspicion from a nearby shopper.
When the music started playing all the dancers rushed to an open space in the fruit and veggie section.
You think all that professional lighting and the cameras may have given something away?
Shoppers immediately knew something was up and turned their attention to the dancers, and pulled out their cellphones and cameras to record the moment.
That unmistakable Abba tune, and title track of the timeless musical, Mama Mia, went blaring over the supermarket speakers.
But it wasn’t quite the same as the Abba version – something was different. The dancers, in colourful t-shirts and white pants, were dancing to a French rendition of the song.
It had everyone in the store dancing, singing, and clapping along!
Except for this one lady… maybe it’s not her favourite musical. Maybe she was in a hurry and really needed to get to the cucumbers but couldn’t. Maybe she doesn’t like joy, who knows.
Even the bakery staff were in the back jammin’ and having a good time!
Once Mama Mia came to a close, the even more iconic and recognizable hit song, Dancing Queen, started up next.
Who hasn’t had a good time dancing to this song?!
Three women took to the floor in classic outfits from the 70s and 80s pop music scene.
In fact, they look just like the outfits Abba uses in their original Mama Mia music video!
I wish I had literally any occasion to wear something like this. They are slaying.
If you’ve never heard Dancing Queen sung in French (and I’m assuming you haven’t), then this video will give you a spice of life that you didn’t know you needed.
The women steal the show and have the whole supermarket screaming and cheering by the end of the set.
The stunt wasn’t just pulled off by a random troop of flash mobbers, but by the actual French cast of Mama Mia!
The two brands were celebrating 4 years in partnership together, and the flash mob was set up to raise awareness for Les Jours Stars (Star Days). This promotion gave shoppers the opportunity to win thousands of different prizes by collecting stars in store.
People shared the love in the comment section, with messages coming from all over the world!
And in many different languages.
