It was during the Italian Renaissance when ballet was first introduced. Since that time, this genre of the performing arts has become incredibly popular. Even if you’re not a ballet fan, you can’t help but be in awe of the talent both female and male ballet dancers possess.
You know they have to be athletic to complete all their moves yet because they’re so fluid, they make it all look so easy.
Ballet is flourishing
From Italy, ballet soon spread to France and Russia, Today, it remains extremely popular in both countries but especially Russia. While there are thousands of different performances, most people connect ballet with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s famous “Nutcracker.”
A standout
In our opinion, all ballet dancers are gifted. But one woman by the name of Nina Kaptsova is in a league of her own. In one, particular, piece, she’s so mesmerizing that the audience can’t take their eyes off her. While performing, they’re spellbound and for good reason.
Sugar Plum Fairy
Although there’s never a bad time to see a ballet, they’re extra special during the Christmas holiday. That’s when troupes perform dances like the “Nutcracker” and “Sugar Plum Fairy.” But when Nina performs the latter ballet, something magical happens.
A unique sound
The music to “Sugar Plum Fairy” is amazing. That’s because it utilizes an instrument called a celesta. For this specific piece, the celesta is perfect. While it looks similar to a piano, it produces more of a bell sound reminiscent of raindrops coming from a fountain.
Viral video
Thankfully for people on the internet, Nina’s performance to the “Sugar Plum Fairy” song was uploaded. To date, it’s already garnered more than 24 million views. That means people who attended in person aren’t the only ones who have the opportunity to enjoy her unbelievable ballet skills.
The complete package
This performance is simply stunning. It’s the complete package with beautiful scenery and props, incredible lighting, gorgeous costumes, and of course, Nina as the starring ballerina. The creators paid careful attention to every detail and it shows.
Nina remains the focus
Even with all the special effects, at no time does the focus turn away from Nina. Although this video was captured in 2010 when she performed at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, it’s still among the most popular on the internet today.
Advanced training
For a ballerina to perform at this level, it takes years of instruction, practice, and hard work. Initially, Nina trained at the Moscow Choreographic Academy, which is now referred to just as the “Academy.” From there, she became a starring member of the Bolshoi Ballet.
Additional roles
Although the “Sugar Plum Fairy” performance is without question her best, she’s impressed audiences with many other roles. In 1997, she took the professional stage for the first time as Cupid in “Don Quixote.” Along with that, she’s appeared in over 40 shows.
International recognition
Due to the unrivaled talent Nina possesses, she’s received a number of international awards. Not only that but she was also recognized as “An Honored Artist of the Russian Federation,” which speaks volumes to her accomplishments.
