Simon Embarrassed When Judge Dances On Table For Contestant’s Audition
After 40 years of trying for a break and with her mother’s encouragement, Sue decided to audition for Britain’s Got Talent. She was the last act and her performance got everyone in the dancing mood – and at least according to Simon, maybe a little too much so. ;)

When you’re competing with a lot of talented singers in one of Britain’s biggest talent shows, how do you set yourself apart?

That was the question on Sue Moretta’s mind when she was up for her auditions on Britain’s Got Talent. She knew she had a great singing voice. And she knew she was a performer. But how will she make herself still stand out?

Solution: make a grand entrance.

And that’s exactly what Sue did. While Ant and Dec, hosts of Britain’s Got Talent, looked for her backstage when it was time for her to perform, she knew what she had to do.

Sue was the final auditionee of BGT.

While the BGT judges, Simon Cowell, David Williams, Alesha Dixon, and Amanda Holden, plus the audience waited for the last act, music bellowed on the loudspeakers. Looking around to find out what was happening, the doors at the back and Sue Moretta walked in with her mic.

Sue Moretta began her audition singing “Don’t Rain On My Parade” in the audience and all the way to the stage.

Clad in a dark, sequined dress and boa scarf, she serenaded the audience with a lively rendition of Barbra Streisand’s song. Everybody was clapping and singing, including the judges. At one point, people were even dancing!

Sue Moretta is a classically-trained singer, who has been singing for years. She was ready to give up singing after 40 years of not catching a break.

She was ready to give up until her mother intervened.

She wasn’t going to audition until she found a letter that her mother, Margaret, wrote to Simon Cowell about her. When Sue found out initially about the letter, she begged her mom not to send it out because she was going to retire.

Sue told Mirror, “After 40 years of trying for a break, I came to the decision I wouldn’t sing anymore. The next day I found a letter my mother had written to Simon. I said: ‘I’ll be mortified if you send it.’”

Her mother didn’t send it and they had forgotten about it, until Margaret’s passing in 2013.

Sue found the letter again and finally read it. In her letter, Margaret said, “My daughter has a great voice, I’d like you to hear it – I’m 80 and it would make my life.”

Reading the letter made Sue reconsider her retirement decision.

“I did it for my mum, I read it and just thought, go on then I’ll give it one more go,” Sue said.

And she definitely gave it her all, judging by all the cheering, and dancing, and singing from the audience and the judges.

And the judges gave her four yeses.

Now comes the waiting part. The judges now had to go through all of the acts they said yes to and decide which ones to advance to the semi-finals.

Susan was nervous but she wasn’t giving up hope.

“I know that the judges are in a room right now, deliberating. I can’t hear them say no. In my head, I can’t hear it – I won’t hear it,” Susan said.

Unfortunately, she didn’t make it through. And even though she wanted to cry at the decision, she wanted to keep things light. She left the room while Ant and Dec waited for her outside. She threw her scarf on the ground and told them “the b******s didn’t put her through”, which made the hosts laugh so hard.

Sadly, the newspapers twisted her reaction and made her appear angry at the decision.

“I was mortified, it was a lie. It’s not nice to see,” she said. “I just wanted to make light of it all, everybody knows I’m bubbly and fun.”

Fortunately for Sue, her decision to give her musical career a go with the BGT audition was a good one. She now has a manager who books her for gigs. This mother-of-four and grandmother-of-five continues to sing professionally and even teaches singing now, too.

But the most surprising part of her audition was when David dropped his pants to dance on the table. Simon’s reaction says it all. Watch below for all the fun.
