Students pop up from church pews during wedding and sing ‘Chapel of Love’

If you were getting married tomorrow, what’s the best wedding gift you’d hope for?

While material things have their place, there’s no denying that the gifts that stay with us forever are the ones that aren’t physical.

So when a group of music students flashmobbed a wedding, you can guarantee it made the bride’s day.

We’ve all seen a flashmob before.

If you’ve witnessed one in real life, that’s pretty rare. They’re not happening all the time. But when they do happen, they usually end up on the internet – and that’s how we come across them.

Flashmobs take all manner of forms, but usually, they involve a group of people who start to sing (and maybe even dance) in seemingly random, unplanned-for situations.

Of course, a flashmob has actually been planned for in detail behind the scenes.

For the full flashmob effect, one person will start to sing, while people around the area will join in, one-by-one.

After putting on a brief but enthusiastic performance, the flashmobbers will quickly disperse, almost like nothing just happened.

According to the Guinness World Records, the first recorded flashmob took place in 2003, in New York.

Since then, they’ve become more of a thing – but you probably haven’t seen a flashmob at a wedding before.

Let’s set the scene: in Niagara Falls, ON, a small church is packed full of more than 130 guests, here to watch bride Shannon and groom Rick tie the knot.

Amongst the guests are 15 music students – and they’re about to put on a show like no other.

After the bride has made her entrance and meets her husband at the front of the church, a silence falls as the audience prepares for the vows.

Nobody quite expects the interruption that happens next: a young boy stands up and sings the first verse of The Dixie Cups’ “Chapel Of Love”.

“Goin’ to the chapel and we’re
Gonna get married…”

It’s a little random, and a lot brave.

Imagine if no one else joined in as planned, and he ended up looking like a crazy guy who felt the urge to sing wedding-related stuff in silent churches?

Luckily, it very quickly becomes apparent what’s happening ,when a girl pops out of her seat next to him, singing:

“Goin’ to the chapel and we’re
Gonna get married…”

Things escalate quickly here: kids pop up from their pews all over the place, harmonizing beautifully as they sing their way through the song’s opening.

But there’s still more to come, because this flashmob brought their own musicians.

The church’s entrance doors open and a group of five young men stride in, carrying guitars.

As they add their voices and instruments to the song, it takes it up to a whole new level. And that’s when you realize: this is actually really good.

Throughout the song, the kids in the pews take it in turns to sing, and all of them have beautiful, angelic voices – perfect for the occasion.

For the big finale, all the kids sing together, and the smallest guitar player bows at the bride and groom.

And that’s that: they all file out of the church like nothing happened. A typical flashmob ending!

If you love flashmob videos, you have to check this one out. The singing kids are seriously cute, and it’s a nice change to see a flashmob that isn’t too in your face.
