People can say what they want about the modern age and how humans have distanced themselves from each other and how things like technology have made our hearts colder, but this simply isn’t true.
When push comes to shove, humans come together to get things done and continue bringing love into this world.
Though some media outlets might tell you otherwise, there are always stories about people coming together and achieving a common good. Like the 80 people who recently formed a human chain to rescue a family that was caught in a rip current in Panama City Beach, Florida.
Another example of this comes out of Ruskin, Fla. where a group of drivers and passengers helped lift an SUV to save the life of a stranger.
Dayna Gibson and her father David Lowe were driving along I-75 when they saw a Ford Excursion’s tire rupture causing the vehicle to lose control, flip over a guardrail and land on its roof on a grassy media.
Gibson and Lowe immediately pulled over and ran to help those inside the car.
They were able to pull the 31-year-old driver and a younger passenger to safety, however, a 9-year-old child was still stuck inside.
“She told us that her youngest daughter was under the vehicle,” Gibson told the Miami Herald. “So at the time all of us ran around to the other side and we saw the little girl’s arm sticking out from under the vehicle.”
They tried to roll the SUV over to no avail. That’s when more and more people saw what they were doing and stopped their cars to help. About 50 people ended up pulling over to lend a hand.
Eventually, they were able to pull the girl to safety.
“We achieved what would have been impossible by coming together,” Gibson said. “There were people from all walks of life there, it didn’t matter.”
Lowe described the scene as “surreal.”
“Everyone from shorts and flip flops to three-piece suits,” he said.
The kind volunteers even helped first responders to secure the SUV until they were able to upright it. The driver, passenger, and little girl were rushed to the hospital and were in fair condition.
“I think if we could be reminded how powerful we are together, especially during these times, we could do a lot of great things,” Gibson said.
