Being a father doesn’t necessarily mean that they are their biological parent. A father is a man that provides love, safety, and guidance throughout life. They can come in all forms — including stepfathers.
A man named Blake Wilson has been the step-dad to a young man named Tyler Dukes for just over seven years. They formed a connection and bond that was as deep as any father and son.
It was Father’s Day, little did he know there was a surprise in store that would change his life.
The family sat around the table, and the cameras were rolling as Blake opened his Father’s Day gifts. One gift, in particular, was about to move him to tears and change his life forever.
Tyler gave Blake an unassuming black wicker basket — inside, it was filled with tissue paper, and what looked to be random gifts like beef jerky and some canned drinks. Soon, Tyler pulled out a package of pens. Unimpressed and a bit confused, he keeps looking inside the basket.
Blake pulled out a framed poem with an envelope taped to the back — what was inside would be the best present he could have ever received.
As Blake started reading the framed poem, he at first doesn’t notice the manila envelope taped to the back. However, once he finishes reading, it catches his attention. His family instructs him to open it.
Blake opens the envelope, pulls out the papers inside, and completely loses his composure. He couldn’t believe what he was reading. He never saw it coming.
Tyler gifted his father adoption papers; even though he was 20-years old, he wanted to make their father/son bond legal and official. Blake burst into tears.
Blake was blown away by the incredibly touching gesture and can’t help but sob tears of happiness. He gives his newly adopted son a giant hug — but the surprise didn’t end there.
After the news of the adoption was received, Blake was about to get some more incredible news from his son.
Tyler was legally changing his name to reflect that of his step-dad’s. He was officially going to be Tyler Wilson. Their bond was going to be ingrained even further; it was such an emotional moment.
Overwhelmed by not only the first but the second surprise, Blake is overcome with emotion. The entire moment was caught on film, and we absolutely love it.
