Kristin Russell, a California woman, has a great relationship with her stepfather, Dave.
Some of Kristinโs very first memories are of Dave playing Barbies and reading stories to her. She remembers he never missed any of her childhood karate tournaments, and he even coached every softball team she was on.
Overall, Dave made a lot of sacrifices for his family, including having to sell his beloved 1973 Porsche 914 2.0L.
In a YouTube video posted by Kristin, she explains:
โHe saved up money to restore it, but instead spent it on his and my momโs wedding. The car was left at a garage, and eventually gutted for parts.โ
Hoping to show Dave how much she appreciates everything he has done for their family, Kristin starts planning a special surprise.
She decides sheโs going to find him a 1973 Porche 914 2.0L, like the one he had owned twenty-four years earlier.
Kristin tells Inside Edition, โI think it would mean a lot to him and really drive home how grateful I am to have grown up with him in my life.โ
Kristin pays for the car with the money she earned overseas as a U.S Air Force captain. Although she does not reveal the price of the Porsche, Daily Mail Online reports that its average market value is $14,822.
Kristin had to travel 700 miles, all the way from California to Arizona, in order to pick up the vehicle. In the YouTube video, she details the process:
โWith help, Iโve spent the last 2 years figuring out how to get him an identical one. Found one in AZ. I live in CA. Had it transported to a mechanic near my parents [in Pennsylvania]. After some mechanical work, time to take it home!โ
The car is ready just in time for Fatherโs Day.
On the big day, Kristin gives her Dad a Fatherโs Day card, thanking him for being an amazing father and acknowledging all the sacrifices he has made for her. The car then pulls into the driveway, revving its motor.
Kristin asks Dave if he hears anything outside, and the pair make their way to the door to see what all the fuss is about. โLook at that!โ Dave exclaims, seeing the Porsche. Kristin tries to speak, but Dave doesnโt appear to be listening as he admires the classic car.
โWhose is it?โ he eventually asks Kristin.
When she tells him itโs his, he is completely dumbfounded. โGet the Hell out of here!โ he exclaims.
The family urges Dave to go for a ride and he definitely doesnโt need to be asked twice. โThis is going to be a blast,โ he says with a childish grin before zooming away. The video ends with a note from Kristin that reads, โ Thank you for everything, Dave. Like you always say, go have fun!โ
Kristinโs Fatherโs Day gift seems to have struck a chord with viewers, and her video has been viewed more than 9,500,000 times.
In a society where the role of fathers can sometimes be overlooked, itโs great to see a daughter showing her Dad some appreciation in such a thoughtful and heartwarming way.
