Mark Gilberg has been given praise all around and is known as a true workhorse among his peers and superiors. The man started his career as a trooper at the Arizona Department of Public Safety back in March of 1981. Mark is incredibly proud of his job, but after 37 years of service, he was ready to retire.
The man has been patrolling the North Arizona highways and keeping them safe for almost four full decades, and every workday ended with a call to the dispatch station.
This time, however, would be Mark’s final dispatch call.
Mark’s daughter Rachel accompanied him on his last work day and took out her smartphone to film the emotional last radio call of the trooper’s career.
“Badge 2988 began his career March 11, 1981. This will be my final 10-7.” the man said with tears in his eyes.
The dispatcher on the other side of the line then became quite emotional as well.
“10-4, and you’re making me cry, too. Did everyone copy that?” she replied.
“I just wanted to thank everybody for everything that they’ve ever done. It’s been an honor and a privilege, and a great career; it’s been a great adventure.” the man added.
Thank everybody that’s ever helped me. As I said, it’s been an honor and a great privilege to serve this great department and work with all of you fine people…
Thirty-seven years and three weeks later, it’s been a great ride.
Thank you very much and keep smiling.”
After the final ’10-7′ code was said, the veteran trooper lost it and became very emotional. This certainly is a dispatch call that will be remembered among the troopers for a long time.
The spokesman for the Arizona Department of Public Safety, Bart Graves, can’t praise trooper Gilbert enough. He also mentions that Mark was the longest-serving trooper in the DPS and worked day in and day out. The northern Arizona highways had become his second home.
“Gilberg has an incredible work ethic, working all kinds of shifts right up until the end,” the spokesman told.
“Trooper Mark Gilberg of our Kingman District gives his last call as he completes 37yrs and 3 weeks of service to the department and citizens of AZ. Thank you Mark for your dedicated service. (You might want tissues)” the department posted on their official Twitter page.
Mark will now be enjoying retirement life in his home in Fredonia. The trooper spent 25 of the 37 years of his service in Arizona’s DPS District One and will dearly miss it. Mark’s family couldn’t be any prouder of him.
His son Matt decided to leave a message of support on the internet.
The footage his daughter captured was posted online, where it quickly went viral. Such a heart-wrenching, pure, and emotional moment.
Thank you for your service, Mark!
