The Rock That Swing Festival has been celebrating for over a decade. The diversity of dances and swing from the 1920s to the 1950s can be found here and dancers all over the world join forces to create an inspiring and unforgettable atmosphere. This year, the festival was held at the Deutsches Theater in Munich, Germany and everyone from beginner to legendary was welcome.
The 15th edition featured 15 bands and 76 dance instructors spanning 4 days.
It must have surely been an amazing four days. Whichever dance and music you wanted was there and who could pass up a cold glass of beer in Germany? The dancers take the spotlight and there were so many fantastic acts. Here’s one of them.
Sondre Olsen-Bye and Tanya Georgeiievska have been dancing together since 2015. They travel and dance together and are planning to do so as they have so much love for dancing.
This Swing dance couple have been everywhere and are more than happy to teach too.
And for this night, Sondre and Tanya will be dancing to Wilbert Harrison’s “Sentimental journey”. These two look every bit the part of a happy couple too. Sondre in a blue suit and Tanya in a vibrant green and blue dress, they accessorize their look with sweet smiles and the radiance of a couple who love doing what they do.
They must have been destined for each other because they look great as a couple.
That classic, “Give me your hand and take a step back and twirl” never gets old. Look how beautiful Tanya’s smile is. The dance floor is their comfort zone and it clearly shows. Both man and woman have that natural confidence and they just ooze energy.
Those hips seem to unhinge from the joint because it is ridiculous how they rock them back and forth. And look at those feet move! The speed and smoothness on display are obviously years of dedicated practice and hard work.
He started dancing at 5 and she at 4 and the rest is groovy history.
Sondre was born and raised in Central Norway while Tanya is from Kiev in the Ukraine. They both reside in Warsaw, Poland now and in between them, have many awards, achievements, and titles. Both are very accomplished dancers and as a couple, have also racked up numerous awards and titles.
These two have had a sentimental journey all their own but they’re all smiles now.
They are graceful and lithe. The swing and shag steps are so much fun to watch and when Sondre spins and drops to his back, Tanya steps and jives over him much to the delight of the audience.
As incredible as that was, they use their bodies as if they’re two different pieces that form one whole. They step through each others arms, legs, and twirl around one another unlike anything we’ve ever seen.
Moves like that come from years of trusting one another.
And for each ridiculous move they pull off that drives the audience wild, they top that one off with a better one. Seriously, these two are on a different level. Look at those faces in the crowd. Crazy!
