Sometimes, we get so stuck at the thought of whether our friends or family will love our gifts. But the thing is, the best gifts are not measured by the price, but by how much thought was placed upon it.
Just take a look at this “third generation” truck builder who made his dad’s day a little bit more special with a gift that his old man won’t forget.
Kelby Nelson shared that the story goes way back to the 1970s.
The truck behind him is not just any restored Ford. It is one of his father’s most treasured possessions. He mentioned that it was sold by the local Ford dealership and it ended up with one of their predecessors.
The truck was then passed from one brother to another until the vehicle ended up with his father. Since then, the truck took care of the truck for 40 years.
The truck sparked a new interest in his father.
The Ford underwent several big changes, most notably, the tire size and the axle height. The truck is elevated which makes it perfect for traversing rivers and shallow bodies of water, and through mud and off-road routes.
He drove the truck around 1998 until 2002. Many memories were made in that vehicle especially when his son mentioned it was the truck they drove going to school.
Nelson grew up with the truck. He fondly remembers learning how to drive with it, taking it off-road, and testing the capabilities of the oldie-but-still-a-goodie engine.
Eventually, the truck’s age got the best of it.
It took some time for his father to get to restoring the truck until the project got extended and delayed. The parts became harder to come by and time became much scarcer.
But just when they thought they wouldn’t be able to make the truck run again, his son found some of the much-needed parts.
After 20 long years, the project finally comes to an end.
The garage doors open and his father is met by a sight he never thought would come – the truck is back in its full splendor.
He walked around the truck and inspected where the repairs were needed. He couldn’t believe his eyes as he realized his Ford was back to being roadworthy.
His grandson was so excited about the truck too! And who knows, his son might also drive his grandson to school one day using the same truck just like in the old days.
People loved the son’s gift to his father.
“Just because you didn’t see him cry doesn’t mean he didn’t. A lot of us just hold it in until we are alone. Awesome job, bud!” one commenter said.
“I love how his dad starts ripping it with his grandson like, “This is what I did with your dad when he was little.” Awesome video!” another commenter said.
But more than the repair itself, this act will give more than it intended. It’s a chance to keep great memories, build new ones, and in the future, the chance to steer it, challenge it, and cruise with it will be passed down to generations.
Watch this son make his dad speechless with this amazing restoration.
