Being injured and ending up in the hospital can be a scary experience.
And that experience only gets worse when you have to go through it by yourself.
This was the case for one older gentleman after getting into a very serious car crash.
Lamar LaGrone is a Vietnam veteran that served in the US Navy.

One day while driving, Lamar ran off the road and hit a tree head-on.
The accident caused him to break his right femur and left ankle.

Lamarโs family was notified but wasnโt sure if Lamar was alive or dead for almost thirteen hours.
He was airlifted to a hospital and when the family finally found out which hospital he was in, they werenโt allowed to visit him due to the COVID restrictions that were in place.

After a week in the hospital, Lamar was going to be transferred to a rehab facility.

Lamarโs son, Will, is a paramedic and decided that this transfer would be his best chance of seeing his dad.

So he called his boss and tried to get himself involved in the transfer.
Luckily for Will, his boss was already aware of the situation and was trying to get him to be one of the transfer paramedics.
After many phone calls and a few pulled strings, Will was able to get on the transfer team.
He didnโt tell his dad though, and when he showed up in the hospital room to surprise his dad, an emotional scene unfolded.

Will walked into the room, took off his face mask, and said hi to his dad.
His dad broke down into tears as Will leaned down and gave him a hug.

Lamar continued to cry as he held onto his son.
When Will did finally pull away, his dad couldnโt stop touching him.
He placed his hand on Willโs chest, his arm, his face.

He could be heard saying, โMy baby boyโ over and over again.
Will held his fatherโs hand and told him that he loved him.
His father returned the gesture.
This moment was extra special for Will because as a kid, his dad wasnโt very emotional around him.
So to see his dad break down in tears made his heart swell with love and appreciation for the fact that he got to see his dad in the hospital and transfer him to the rehab center.
After arriving at the rehab facility, Lamar got straight to work.
He has been recovering a little bit every day and has been making great progress.
This is good news because the older you get, the harder it is to recover from injuries.
According to After Trauma, โSkin and muscles become thinner with age and bone strength may be weaker. These age-related changes may delay healing and leave the older patient prone to other problems such as infection or chronic pain.โ
Lamar now has both of his casts off and is able to move around the facility a bit.
Every day, Lamarโs family stops by the rehab facility to say hi and wave at him through the window.

Everyone is very grateful that Lamar survived his potentially fatal accident and is now doing much better.
So check out the video below and send Lamar all of your well-wishes.
