“Love and marriage, love and marriage,” is the whimsical Frank Sinatra song that captures the light-hearted nature of love.

A couples wedding day helps us picture the excitement and jitters that come along with it all.

Hey, it’s a pretty big deal to commit to one person for the rest of your life.

Marriage has definitely changed over the years and our parents may have a very different idea of what it means to be a husband or wife.

So taking wedding advice from our parents, though sometimes quite helpful, should sometimes be taken with a grain of salt.

And sometimes, when we should be tossing the advice to another time, we can’t help but listen to our parents loving attempts at giving advice.

One groom learned his lesson after taking his father’s advice way too literally. It was Josh and Shelby’s big day when Josh’s dad decided to sit him down for a pre-wedding chat. His dad explained to him saying,

“Josh let me tell you a little something about your mom and I’s honeymoon night.”

Josh was intrigued and continued to listen as he was putting on his boutonnière.

His father said,

“We made it to our honeymoon suite, when I took off my pants and handed them to your mother, and said ‘Here try these on’ “

Josh was wondering where exactly this story was going when his father continued,

“Your mother tried to put them on and said ‘These pants are too big, I can’t wear them!?’ “

“Then I said to her, ‘Exactly, I wear the pants in this family and I always will’, Since then your mother and I haven’t had any problems”

Josh’s eyes were puzzled but relieved that his dad gave him (so he thought) some valuable advice.

Josh and Shelby’s wedding was out of a fairytale.

There was lots of dancing and boatloads of laughter surrounded by friends and family. Certainly a celebration for the memory books.

After all the wedding festivities were coming to a close it was time for the romantic honeymoon!

Josh and Shelby were thrilled to get to their dream destination to continue the marriage celebration. Of course, Hollywood likes to glamorize the honeymoon experience, maybe the newlyweds are riding horses on the beach or ziplining through the rainforest.

But Josh and Shelby wanted to keep it simple and just hang tight at bed and breakfast in the country.

They were getting settled in their room when Josh remembered his fathers advice. So Josh took off his pants and said to Shelby

“Here try these on.”

Shelby looked confused and started to try them on. That’s when she said,

“These are too big, they don’t fit me!?”

Josh said to her,

“Exactly, I wear the pants in this family. And don’t you ever forget that honey.”

Shelby nodded without saying a word. Then she decided to take off her pants and hand them to Josh.

“Here try mine on” Shelby said

Josh tried to wiggle into them and said,

“I can’t get into your pants!?”

Shelby smirked, gave a sultry look, then sexily slid back into her pants and said,

“Exactly. And if you want a shot at it ever again, I’d fix that attitude if I were you.”

Josh knew he made a terrible mistake and was kicking himself for listening to his father’s “wise” advice.

Sorry dad, In this day and age “wearing the pants” isn’t really a specific role in marriage anymore. Josh learned that lesson pretty quickly. And it’s definitely a good lesson for all to take note when saying ‘I do’.
