Most of us don’t think twice when we send our kids off to school with a packed lunch. But mom Josette Duran thought it a little odd when her son, 14-year-old Dylan asked her to pack him a little extra each day. Here is a story about a mom who couldn’t stand by and watch someone else’s kid go hungry.
An Unusual Request

When Dylan, her 14-year-old son requested an extra snack in his school lunch each day, Josette Duran thought it was because he was not getting completely full. Eventually, the conversation came around to why he was asking for extra food. The real reason might break your heart.
The Real Reason Behind the Request

The real reason behind the request was because Dylan had seen another boy at his school would sit alone each day, only eating a single fruit cup for lunch. But instead of just adding an extra snack, the caring mom packed a whole second lunch. Their conversation between the two went like this:
[Block]Dylan: Mama can you make me TWO lunches today?
Mom: Are you not getting full, boo?
Dylan: Yes Mom, it’s for this boy. He only eats a fruit cup for lunch. Can you make him lunch too? I don’t think he has lunch money.[/Block]

Josette even posted about the incident on her Facebook page. in the post she talked about how proud she was of her son’s heart and how kind we was for doing that for another person.
An Offer to Pay Her Back

In fact, Josette had discovered that the boy’s mom had recently lost her job. And Josette remembered how a few years before she had been in a similar situation. According to Josette,
[Block]A few years ago, me and my son were homeless. I was living in my car and I was washing him in bathrooms. And we didn’t have food.[/Block]
So now, she knew she had to help. She even left encouraging notes in the lunches for both boys. And even though the boy’s mom eventually found out, She refused to accept repayment. But Josette would not accept it and even swore to go even further in her bid to help others
Paying it Forward

In addition to refusing payment for making the other boy a lunch, Josette also organized a fundraiser to help other children at Dylan’s school. A coach of a local girls’ volleyball team, Josette had her team raise money to help out other kids who couldn’t pay their lunch bill at her son’s school. All told, the team raised $400, thus ensuring that everybody’s bill was paid.
