If you are a game player who is also a cat lover, then the new open-world game Peace Island might be just for you. Created by developer Eric Blumrich, the game focuses on a group of cats that go on various adventures around the island and solve mysteries. Set from a cat’s perspective this unique game has as its setting a beautiful island in Maine. Here is more on this amazing game.
The Game’s Premise
The main thrust of the game is that the islands humans have all disappeared, leaving their felines to solve the mystery of where they went. When all is said and done, the cats have to make a critical choice, do they bring back the humans or do they let them stay gone and live their lives without them?
A Game of Exploration and Discovery
With the group of characters made up of nine distinct cats, players can explore the island, discovering what is out there. Instead of combat, the game tends to focus on exploration and discovery. In fact, the player will experience all that Peace Island has to offer through the perspective of the house cats in the game. With an emphasis placed on aesthetics, cat lovers and game players will love visiting the island over and over.
The Developer
Blumrich promoted his project on Kickstarter. Backed by 345 people, the game got over $13,000 dollars in pledges, more than enough to fund the project. But, if you missed out on the Kickstarter, you can still contribute to the project and still get the premiums offered through the developers Patreon.
The Protagonist
The main characters in the story are nine cats who have to work together to solve the mystery of the disappearing humans. Their names are Boy, Gary, Calinaigh, Anin, Girl, Zack, Ronan, Sushi, and Elizabeth, all with their own personality and unique set of skills.
The Environment
When playing, players will have four distinct communities to explore, each with detailed building interiors. In addition, game play features a day-night cycle, realistic weather patterns, and surroundings that the various characters can interact with, including a vast majority of the island’s 50-plus structures.
Some of these buildings include museums, factories, and a variety of mansions. To add some realism to the game, care was taken to accurately depict the island’s architecture. This includes a schoolhouse inspired by the Cliff Island schoolhouse, which is one of the few one-room school houses remaining in the U.S.
Other Game Details
A mix of science fiction, alternate history, and mystery, Peace Island features a large game world that includes the aforementioned communities, as well as beautifully scenic woodlands, coastline, and farmlands. The game environment also has World War 2 ruins to explore as well as other, as of yet unnamed locations.
The game is currently in development for Mac, PC and Oculus VR systems. The game was created using the Unity game engine, a popular engine used in the development of third-party games. The game even has interactive fauna, such as deer, mice, whole flocks of birds, and insects.
As an added feature, the game also has a local public radio station and newspaper, which served the 38 human residents which called the island home. Now, it is just one of the many features used to add an air of mystery, and sometimes humor, to game play on the island. Here is a video that gives a tour of some of the islands locations.
