Wear a wrap dress
Wrap dresses can be a godsend for plus-size women. Because the wrap is located just under the bust area, it hides the belly and camouflages the waist area. It draws the eyes upward toward the chest area and make you appear longer and taller.
Wear the correct size bra
Bras need to point up and hang down. When you wear the correct size bra, it will help create an hourglass figure for your body and give you curves you never knew you had. So hoist those girls up, ladies!
Wear the same color on the bottom half of the body
Wearing the same color of bottoms, socks, and shoes will help you look longer and taller. That look will distract eyes away from your belly, instantly removing pounds from the way your body looks. Make sure that you wear the color that looks good on you, too.
Wear long cardigans
Long cardigans will be and are your best friend if it isn’t already. If you’re petite, it instantly makes you look longer and taller. If you’re hiding a belly, it doesn’t cut off in the middle and emphasizes the belly. Instead it goes past the belly and hides it perfectly.
Add a pop of color when dressing in all black
There are some women who can pull off wearing all-black or dark colors from head to toe. Then there are women who can’t pull it off because all that dark color can make their skin look harsher. To soften the color, wear another piece of clothing that’s a brighter color. You can wear a pink or yellow scarf, a long red cardigan, or a bright belt.
Wear flesh-toned shoes
When you’re wearing a dress, it’s best to wear pumps or shoes with a color that’s as close to your skin color as possible. This way, it’s hard to see where your shoe starts and the bottom of your legs. When you wear a different color for your shoes, it accentuates legs. You don’t want that to be the focus of your whole outfit now, right?
Dress in one color
If you’re going to dress in one color from head to toe, be sure to wear a long cardigan or jacket in a different color. One color from top to bottom hides your problem areas and, in fact, other people won’t see it. They’ll just see you wearing one color with no idea where one part begins and another part ends.
Carry a big, structured purse
When you’re a big person and you carry a small purse, you’re going to look off because the proportion is off. Wearing a bigger structured purse scales your proportions. It’ll work with your outfit to make it a complete one.
Wear dangling earrings
Long, dangling earrings have a purpose. It distracts the eye and forces it to look at the ears, the side of the face, and the hair. It keeps the eye away from the chin, neck or the round face.
Wear a long necklace
Wearing long necklaces has a purpose, too. The necklace goes down past the chest area and makes you look longer. Plus it distracts the eye away from a round face. Bring out the long necklaces!
Wear a belt
Wearing a belt may be uncomfortable but it’s the best way to define your waist. This is especially helpful for petite women. Let the belt rest above your natural waist. This is usually just under the chest area where it is slimmer than your waist area.
Wear asymmetrical tops
Because asymmetrical tops are cut with one part longer than the other, it shifts the eyes towards the thighs and away from the belly area.
Wear high-waisted pants
Wear them high, girl! Yes, wearing high-waisted pants works wonder for hiding the belly. They usually have a stretchable material used for the waistband, which helps hide the waist. Plus since the waist sits higher than your waist, it gives the illusion of longer legs, therefore making you look slimmer.
Avoid belts on coats (or have a belt under the bust area)
Avoid wearing belts with coats because you want to remove as much bulkiness as possible. Plus having the belt at the waist cuts off your body and makes you look bigger than you actually do. If you need to wear a belt with your coat, tie it higher up your waist to make it look like an empire wiastline.
Avoid short and puffy coats
Avoid short, puffy coats at all costs! They always end just above the hips and below the waist and it makes you look bigger in that area. Maybe you can find a puffy coat that ends past the hips but its puffiness can still add bulk to your body. Best to just go for structured long coats that fall past the hips.
Wear a pointed shoe
Pointed-toe shoes can make your legs look longer and make you look taller. Better to wear rounded pointed-toe shoes so the shoes don’t look off balance either. This way, the rounded shape can give you the balance you need to complete your look.
Wear dark wash jeans
Wear dark wash jeans, especially during the winter. Dark colors detract from attention and can make you look thinner. When you pair it with dark-colored shoes, preferably the same color as the jeans, it’ll make your legs look longer.
Wear brighter colors to draw eyes up to the face
Do you want to avoid eyes at your belly? Draw them upward towards your face. Wear bright colors. Wear a bright-colored top, scarf, hat, or bright-colored lipstick.
