Musical instruments are made from all sorts of materials and come in all shapes and sizes.
There are metal ones, wooden ones, long ones, short ones–if it can make a noise, then it’s probably been turned into some sort of instrument.
But even with their wide range, some instruments may still surprise you.
A giant, walk-on piano is one such instrument.
It looks like a normal piano–only flat and long–and is laid out onto the floor.
The keys themselves are hooked up to some sort of speaker and when you stand on a key, that note is played through the speakers.
The beauty of this instrument is that it can be played by multiple people at the same time in order to get the most melodic use out of it.
That’s exactly what a couple of street performers decided that they would do in order to entertain the passers-by.
In the video below, you can watch as the pair of musicians get ready to wow the crowd that has formed around their unique piano mat.
They gaze down at all of the notes, trying to remember the correct steps to the song.
When they think they have it, the man looks over to his partner and begins to count off.
When he hits three, the two of them jump onto the piano and begin to play.
Right away, the listeners are able to recognize the tune–it’s the theme song to the “Pink Panther.”
The two performers move around the piano keys in a way that is akin to dancing.
This is one of the best parts about this instrument–not only do you get to make music, but you get to dance to the music that you are making simultaneously.
The man is spinning in circles and stretching his feet from key to key, making sure he is landing on the right note.
His feet have to move fast when the tempo picks up and then slow down when he lands on a note that he wants to hold.
Meanwhile, the woman is playing all of the accompaniment notes that add depth and richness to the tune.
At one point, the man runs over to the other side of the woman in order to play notes in a lower octave.
The woman slides over and starts to play notes where the man just was.
The two performers can be seen smiling at each other and even laughing at times–obviously enjoying their own performance.
It’s clear that they have practiced this piece well, as their performance is flawless.
They hit every single note on time and it’s always in rhythm.
As they near the end of their song, the two jump and land on a pair of keys at the same time, stalling there and allowing the note to ring out.
Then they hop off the back of the piano and land safely on the mat behind them.
The crowd, who clearly enjoyed the performance, give the two musicians a round of applause.
As far as street entertainment goes, this performance is up there with the best.
