Being a mother is hard, but trying to be a student while raising a baby almost certainly means that classes are missed and compromises have to be made. For one mother however, she learned very quickly that her teacher might be a little more forgiving towards her situation in a tweet that has now gone viral on Twitter.

21-year-old Morgan King is studying therapeutic recreation at the University of Tennessee while simultaneously raising her baby daughter. One June 114th of this year, she had to miss class to take care of her child because no one was able to watch her child during that time. Her professor, Sally B. Hunter, quickly noticed that she was missing from class and inquired why.

After finding out that she missed class because of her daughter, Hunter insisted that in the future, she should just bring her daughter to class.

In the future, if you are having trouble finding someone to watch Korbyn, please feel free to just BRING HER with you to class. I would be absolutely delighted to hold her while I teach, so that you can still pay attention to the class and take notes. I work for the Department of CHILD and FAMILY Studies — so how terrible would it be, if I was unwilling to have a child visit our class? I’m very serious with this offer—just bring Korbyn with you!”

Overwhelmed with happiness, she posted a photo of this letter onto Twitter, and people quickly showed both King and her professor compassion and love.

Although the fame was nice, the core message is even more important- we need to work to push working or studying mothers to give them the opportunity to grow even while their child is in infancy. A lot of young mothers are fighting an uphill battle to increase their career potential while raising a child, and by helping them along the way, we can help mothers be the best they can be at every step. Professors like Sally Hunter prove that there is a lot of compassion and love to give, and that there will always be a way to integrate motherhood into education to help mothers accomplish all of their goals.

We can’t wait to see what these incredible women do next!
