Mariah Carey is the queen of the world. She has a plethora of smash hits, an insanely awesome voice, and she is just overall an iconic diva. When we listen to her old hits, we are hit with a pang of nostalgia as we reminisce about the 90s-2000s. She was the best of the best!
So because she is such a legend who is specifically known for her vocal skills, you can understand why some people might be hesitant to put their own spin on one of her hits. Mariah has certainly raised the bar quite high, and it can feel a little intimidating to try and recreate.
These sisters decided to take a risk and perform their own take on a Mariah cover.
These two sisters decided to take on the huge challenge of covering “Without You,” which was actually a song originally by the British rock group Badfinger released in 1970. The song was covered by several artists including Mariah in 1994, who obviously made it her very own hit.
In 2016, 11-year-old Anastasia Petrik and her sister, 16-year-old Viktoria Petrik took to the Mikhail Voronin’s Memory Dinner concert to perform their rendition of the song to a live audience.
It is one of the most performed songs ever but the two ladies did not let that stop them. Instead, they embraced it and decided to go ahead and make the song completely their own.
The sisters took the stage with total confidence, wearing matching flowy white dresses and long blonde hair. They look like beautiful angels who have just fallen from the sky! The crowd cheers with excitement because they can already tell this is going to be great.
Viktoria starts off the song with a great start. Her voice is smooth and steady and she hits every note perfectly. When the beat drops in, Anastasia takes her turn and does just as well as her big sister who gives her the spotlight and watches her with a big smile on her face.
For the chorus, the two sisters join to sing together. They harmonize together, still hitting every note seamlessly. Towards the end of the chorus, they both belt out the last few words. And they make it look so easy to have such a big vocal range!
Midway through the performance, they take each other’s hands and look into each other’s eyes as they sing. They also mimic one another’s moves. The sisterly connection is so clear in this lovely show!
The sisters have competed in a few contests before that video was taken. They both competed at the Junior Eurovision contest in Amsterdam in 2012, which Anastasia won. Viktoria also competed in Ukraine’s Got Talent on television. While she was on the show, the judges asked Anastasia to join Viktoria, who made it to the semifinals together.
We love that these two sisters have decided to put their talents to good use and share them with the rest of the world! It is a beautiful sisterly love.
