Simon Cuts Off Yoli Mayor's Performance, But When She Changes Her Appearance, It's A Hit
WOW! She has such an amazing voice. I have to agree with Simon that it was a good idea for her to change her song choice.

You’ve never heard “Make it Rain” like this before. Keep your ears peeled during Yoli Mayor’s performance, and you will be wowed.

She may have gotten off to a rocky start on “America’s Got Talent” when Simon stopped her after just a few bars of “I Put a Spell on You,” but Yoli Mayor bounced back incredibly quickly.

Mayor seemed a bit down when Simon told her that the song and outfit were too “old” for the 21-year-old. But Tyra’s supermodel styling skills at 1:38 effortlessly turned Yoli’s mood around and got her on the right foot. From there, Mayor did the rest on her own, wowing the audience and judges alike.

By 2:40, just a few seconds into the song, Mayor was already into it, creating a lasting impression. It only took a few more bars to bring a rare smile to Simon’s face and get a standing ovation from the audience and judges. This Cuban-American certainly has talent!

While her audition on “America’s Got Talent” certainly introduced Mayor to a new group of listeners, she had already performed live and built up a following before that late-May 2017 airdate.

Mayor has come a long way from her first vocal experience at age 2, now earning her keep as a professional singer. She grew up in Miami and has always had a passion for music that cannot be stopped.

Before her appearance on “America’s Got Talent,” Mayor sang at the local Cabaret South Beach and was the in-house singer at Miami restaurant El Tucan.

You may have actually seen Mayor’s YouTube videos years before. Even back in 2011, when she was 15, she posted a cover of Adele’s “Someone Like You.” This video has 15,278 views to date. The video quality is lower than her more recent work, but it still shows off her stunning voice that is filled with a richness surprising for her age.

This young singer has been compared to many artists, from Nina Simone and Ella Fitzgerald to Amy Winehouse and Adele, all of whom she has covered songs by. Mayor has even earned the nickname of the “Cuban Adele” for her ability to flawlessly tackle the singer’s most challenging works.

Yoli Mayor appreciates this nickname and takes it as a compliment. Yet she looks forward to being known for being herself instead of compared to others.

Don’t be fooled by all the covers; Mayor also writes her own songs and will be releasing an album soon.

Mayor doesn’t limit herself to just music when it comes to art.

In a 2016 interview with the Miami Herald, Mayor explained:

“I was born to do art in all shapes, forms and sizes. I make clothes, I make jewelry – I could never stop creating, basically. It’s almost involuntary.”

This singer has always been creative and attended Coconut Grove’s Academy of Arts and Minds. While there, she wrote and then directed her very first play – at the age of just 16.

When performing, Mayor not only strives to follow her dreams but also to set an example for other women.

In the same interview with the Miami Herald, she said:

“I want women to be independent, and I want people to stop teaching their little girls that they’re princesses that need to be maintained.”

Not only is Yoli Mayor providing entertainment to everyone who gets the opportunity to hear her marvelous singing voice, she is doing it for the right reason. She always strives to stir up emotions with her art, whether it is music, fashion, or something else.

Can’t get enough of Yoli Mayor? Keep your eyes out for her EP, which should come out this summer.

It will feature original songs, such as “Lay Here,” which is about her experience of getting over her first love.

One thing is for sure, we can expect great things from Mayor in the future, whether she takes home the top prize on “America’s Got Talent.”
