Live talent shows on television are nothing new. American Idol, The X Factor, and America’s Got Talent have been around for years. But now, host Steve Harvey is taking things in a new direction with his show Little Big Shots.

If you can’t guess from the title, the show is all about talented kids.

And man, are some of these kids talented.

Just take the Johnson siblings, who appeared on the show and blew the audience — and Harvey himself — away with their rendition of “My Girl” by the Temptations.

The Johnsons performed in sweet three-part harmony, bouncing the melody flawlessly back and forth between them.

The sibling trio is composed of 13-year-old Nya Johnson, 11-year-old Kaden Johnson, and 10-year-old Brooklyn Johnson. Their voices would be breathtaking at any age, but it’s truly astounding that they can produce such complex music at such young ages.

Nya serves as lead singer but skillfully passes the melody at times to her brother and sister. Her voice is pure, sweet, and completely controlled. She adds a beautiful flair to the song without taking it too far from its original feel. She also displays the control and skill of a much older singer with more training.

The three siblings hail from the state of Georgia.

When asked why they decided to showcase their talents on Little Big Shots, they had a pretty simple answer.

“We think we have a pretty special gift for [singing],” said Nya.

As for what they thought about meeting Steve Harvey, the siblings had a couple of thoughts, no doubt ones that would give Harvey a chuckle.

“[He’s] super funny,” said Kaden. “He looked more real and was a lot taller in person.”

Harvey was spellbound during their performance, listening intently to each note.

However, he couldn’t stop himself from bouncing to the music as he listened.

The Johnsons are the three oldest of five siblings. All of them, including their parents as well as their younger siblings Braylen and Laila, enjoy singing together in church on Sundays. They also perform together regularly.

But auditioning for Little Big Shots wasn’t a smooth road for them.

After a few initial audition rounds, they were told they didn’t make it. So, they uploaded a video thanking friends and family with one last performance — My Girl by the Temptations.

The internet exploded with excitement, sharing the video over and over again. And then it was shared by show host Steve Harvey himself.

“That just happened to be one of Steve Harvey’s favorite songs,” said the kids’ dad, Frank Johnson. “That put us on the rollercoaster going back up.”

Rollercoaster is the right word.

It was an emotional journey for the entire family.

“It was surreal,” said their mother, Alisha Johnson. “We did a lot of work to get there. And then, to be disappointed and hear they didn’t make it — and then for things to turn around so quickly, we just couldn’t believe that it was happening.”

Producers called them back and by the next month, they were on a plane to Los Angeles. It all came down to that one video. Thank goodness for their song choice or the world might never have heard the sweet harmonies of the Johnson siblings.
