Sometimes auditions come and go and we forget all about them. But other times, Britain’s Got Talent shows us something unforgettable beautiful. That’s exactly what happens with this performance from 2016 that people are still talking about.
The audition starts off like any other. We find out that this young lady is named Beau Dermott and she is twelve-years-old. “Are you nervous?” Simon asks.
“Yes,” she admitted sheepishly. But did she have a reason to be? From her backstory, we see that she’s a normal, sweet little girl with a dog named Bailey and a rabbit named Tommy. She talks about singing in front of the queen, one of her greatest dreams.
Her parents say she is rather shy at home and that getting up on the big stage is something that is really hard for her. “I couldn’t do it,” her dad chimes in.
When asked which song she would be singing, she lets judges know that it would be “Defying Gravity” from the musical Wicked. We all know that song is originally performed by Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel, two big voices in the musical industry.
Amanda Holden is ecstatic to hear this is the song the girl will be taking on. You see, Amanda herself is an actress, singer, host, and just about everything else a TV personality can be.
As you’ve probably found out by now, young Beau killed this performance. Competing with the best, she gave a stellar performance that wowed us all.
With a standing ovation from all four judges, we know something is in store for this girl. It’s not often that all four judges stand for a performance. As fans know, Simon isn’t about the courtesy ovation. If he stands, he actually means it.
Young girls are yelling from the crowd, “push the golden buzzer!” at this point. So it really isn’t surprising what happens next.
Amanda couldn’t contain herself and decided to give her golden buzzer to Beau Dermott. With open arms, she was ready to make this girl’s dreams come true with the push of a button.
Not only did this judge hit that buzzer, but she hopped up on stage and gave her favorite act a hug telling her she was, “so amazing.”
What did Simon have to say? “That’s how you do it,” he told her. Believing that the whole nervous act was meant to fool them. Judge David Williams said that everyone else just might as well go home because it was incredible.
While all the judges give their two cents, it’s all for naught but raising the girls’ confidence. Amanda gave the buzzer already, meaning she is going to the live shows!
Beau Dermott didn’t end up winning Britain’s Got Talent that year, but she did become a finalist. Or better yet, she struck a recording contract soon after. Guess winning comes in many forms.
