The Voice has been one of the most popular talent shows of recent years, and it’s so successful that it’s sparked a lot of alternative versions all over the world, and even spin-offs, like The Voice Kids. Over in France, The Voice Kids airs on TF1, the main free-to-air TV channel in France, and it’s been running each year since 2014. The current coaches are Jenifer, Patrick Fiori, Amel Bent, and Soprano, all popular and successful singers in the French-speaking world, and they were all amazed when this young man stepped onto the stage.
12-year-old Ali was very nervous about performing in front of such a big crowd and such famous singers.
He’s a very shy and timid boy by nature, hailing from Casablanca in Morocco.
But as soon as Ali starts to sing, the coaches can’t believe their ears! Amel Bent spins around in her chair almost immediately, blocking Jenifer from adding Ali to her team in the process.
Jenifer then buzzes in order to admire Ali singing, as the young man belts out an incredible rendition of the Jackson Five’s ‘Who’s Lovin You’.
His happy family, watching backstage, all start jumping around with glee as they see the coaches start to turn.
Soprano buzzes next, leaving Patrick as the only one waiting to turn, but it doesn’t take long for him to join the others. All four coaches sit back with smiles on their faces and gaze in amazement, completely blown away by Ali’s talent.
For such a small and shy guy, Ali has the voice of a leading man, lighting up the stage and filling the whole studio with his incredible vocals.
As the song comes to an end, Ali stands nervously as the judges start to argue among themselves over which one of them will get to take him into their team.
Amel immediately tells Ali he has “no choice” and has to go with her, repeating again and again how much she loves him, while Jenifer airs her frustration at having been blocked.
Jenifer then delivers her verdict, saying that Ali has the “soul of a musician” and expressing her sadness at missing out on a chance to work with him.
Soprano goes next, speaking about Ali’s extraordinary “control” and “mastery” of his voice.
Amel then tells Ali he has a very bright future ahead of him, saying that “we lose track of time when we listen to you” and comparing his talent to Stevie Wonder.
Finally, Patrick adds that Ali has a very rare and special voice, while his family watch on eagerly from a room backstage, waiting to see which coach their young singer will choose.
In the end, it almost seemed written in the stars that Ali just had to go with Amel, and that’s exactly what he does.
She dances excitedly over the stage to hug him, telling him he has “one of the most beautiful voices I’ve ever heard in my life”. See it all happen in the clip below.
