One would hope that strangers would help out in an emergency. But what if the situation was more of a “personal emergency” – and somewhat embarrassing? Luckily, there are kind people in this world who are willing to help others in those kinds of situations too.

This story is proof that people are inherently good and that one’s faith need not be restored in humanity because it should have never wavered in the first place.

People have always been good and they always will be good.

This story starts with a kind soul named Lisa Lemming Jackson. According to Woman’s World, Jackson works at a senior home care center in Georgia. So, she has an intuition for the needs of elderly people.

She was shopping at a Kroger in Rome, Georgia when her intuition started going off.

Jackson noticed an elderly man in one of the store aisles, so she smiled at him as she passed.

There was something in the man’s eyes that showed that he needed some help. Jackson decided to check on him.

It was then that the man began to tear up with shame and embarrassment.

Jackson later shared the story on social media where it went viral.

In a Facebook post, she wrote:

“Just spent 2 hours with an elderly man at Kroger. It started with me just smiling at him, making eye contact. As I walked past him he looked like he needed something.”

“I went back and asked him if I could help him. Tears welled up in his eyes and he said, ‘I have colon cancer and I have had a really bad accident, if I get up out of this cart everyone will know. What should I do?'”

Jackson was heartbroken to see this man in such pain.

Thankfully she and the staff at Kroger were ready to step in and help.

The staff immediately went to work getting the man what he needed to clean himself up. They even gave him some dry clothes to wear so that he could feel comfortable.

“The look of his dignity lost left me with a lump in my throat. From that moment on, Kroger staff quickly fetched us wipes, undergarments and discreetly took him to their employer bathroom Area where he was given clothes. He cried and apologized. He said he had to hurry his wife was at home alone,” Jackson explained.

While the man felt his government and the country he laid his life down for failed him, he was overjoyed that his fellow humans hadn’t.

“When we walked to the register we found his groceries all bagged and somehow paid for. He cried harder. He said he fought in Vietnam and Korean War and loved his country, but up until today, he said he thought his country forgot about him,” Jackson wrote.

Jackson and the man then shared a beautiful moment together where they were both able to connect with each other.

Before parting ways, the elderly man gave Jackson some “words of wisdom” that will stick with her forever.

“We both cried and I shared with him my own struggles and fears… He gave me words of wisdom and encouraged me that maybe after all, humanity still does care about one another.”

She ended her post writing:

“Today proved it. Thank you Elmer, thank you Kroger and thank you God for the lesson and reminder I received today.”

You never know when a stranger might need a helping hand, whether it be in an emergency situation, or perhaps they could just use a little kindness. It’s good to be willing to help others – and have faith that strangers would help you too.

By no surprise, Jackson’s post has warmed hearts across the internet and has been shared over 56K times. Be sure to check it out below!
